Tank and Bodyguard Eidolon

Looking for help building my eidolon up through the level 11. I have not done this with one in actual play before.
(NOTE: This is for PFS if that makes any difference in your suggestions.)

Items and thoughts under consideration.


  • Primary Task: Tank (Sometimes the table doesn’t have anyone for melee. But then we probably have a bunch of ranged or casters that can take things down if there is a tank to keep the bad guys away.)
  • Secondary Task: Bodyguard (Other times the table has plenty of melee capability. But let’s say no one to give much effort to protecting the squishy casters. Thrice my PC has died or nearly died when the melee machines charged the BBEG… Leaving the mooks free to charge our casters.)
  • Can NOT change the feats. (So I don’t want ones that won’t work for both tasks or that only work based on some GM’s rulings)
  • Feats: Combat Reflexes seems like it would be a good choice for both tasks.
  • Feats: Bodyguard and In Harm’s Way seem ideal for 1 task but don’t know if they would really help for the other task.
  • Feats: Iron Will, Mobility, and Combat Patrol seem like they could be good for both.
  • Can change evolutions at every level gain if I find something not working.
  • Evolutionist (still under consideration): So can change evolutions at every scenario at level 6+
  • Evolutions: Reach with Push, Grab, or Trip seem like a good choice for both tasks
  • Evolutionist(still under consideration): So can change base form at level gains at level 8+
  • Base Form: Initially thinking quadruped decent dex along with the speed to keep up and get in position.
  • Size: I would prefer to keep it medium sized so it can go everywhere with me. I can always use enlarge person to make it large when needed. There just seem to be quite a few occasions where people had to leave their large pets behind (or at least they didn’t function well because of their size in cramped spaces.
  • DPR: Has to be enough to be a threat that the opposition can’t just ignore, but not the primary goal.
  • I don’t believe my summoner build will have the feats to spare for teamwork feats or extra evolutions unless it seems absolutely necessary.

Yet more things I’m not sure about Blind Sense, Blind Fight, Tremor Sense, Armor Proficiency, DR, Energy Resistance, Blind Sight, Low Light Vision, Fast Healing, See in Darkness, Skilled, Ability Increase, Scent, etc…

There are just so many choices, I’m getting overloaded with the possibilities. Any ideas?
