This could very possibly be one of the most important Kickstarters ever. Getting children in schools and homes everywhere to read is a noble and worthy goal.
If we could help support this, even just by sharing it via social media, that would be huge.

AFAIK, that's a huge, household name compared to even the "wildly-popular-within-its-niche" sorts of things that I typically have seen succeed on KS.
I can't help but think that if/when (looks more like when than if at this point) Reading Rainbow's KS succeeds, this will catapult the whole crowdfund model into a new level of success and public awareness.

Wow. It's almost certain to hit 2 million on day 2 out of 35. I think I need to go find out what the current KS record is because I can't help but think this KS is going to blow it away before the weekend is over. Maybe even tomorrow?
EDIT: Okay, I thought the record was the 4.1 million that Torment raised, 10 is a bit more than that. But it seems realistic that this KS will still bust through that in the next 33 days.

It is important to look at them by type.
The top 3 are for physical products in the tech sector: a $100 watch, a video game system, and a $300 high def audio player. The first artistic one is Veronica Mars, at 5.7M. Then you have 3 video games, Both Bones, and 2 more tech projects before you hit the second video project at 3.1M. The only other non-video game, non miniature, non technology project to break 1M was Amanda Palmer's CD.
Day 1, and 2 make up over half of Veronica Mars total funding, and its day 1 was over 2.3M. Wish I Was Here follows a similar trend, with almost 1.7M by day 2, but only 3.1M total. Reading Rainbow seems on pace to fall somewhere between those 2, closer to Veronica Mars
Different project types behave differently. Evidence suggests this will follow a the logarithmic curve with an uptick at the end like most other projects. I doubt they will have stretch goals that will make people increase their pledge continuously like miniature kickstarters do to achieve their exponential growth. Video kickstarters also tend to have issues greatly exceeding their goal because they reward their videos at close to retail. This means once they hit their goal people tend not to pledge as much and it becomes harder to convince new people to join in over the goal. This project is capitalizing on LeVar's celebrity appeal with the high end rewards, so it will probably have a steady trickle of those coming in, but I'm not sure about demand for the low end stuff and how much appeal it has to people vs how many are pledging at those levels because they want to support the cause. After the initial publicity, it becomes much harder to convince people that a well funded cause needs more help, even if they agree it is a good one.
In the end, I would put money on this coming in at 4.5M. That would put it solidly at the number 2 video project and in the top 5 projects overall.
Just shy of $2.5 million at about a day and a half.
