Wow - you guys have really boxed yourselves into a corner with this CG Settlement choice? I have already applied for TiD so I will just have to wait and see how things can work out in the long run.

Grand Lodge

I can see TN being a great option for their extremist offshoot Settlement choice, seeking purity and elves values above all others.

We are currently looking into changing to a NG settlement.

The way I understand it, every Member of a Settlement must start out within one Alignment Step of the Settlement itself.

Correct, but you are not required to actually belong to the settlement to benefit from all it's features (training, protection, etc) as long as you're a member of a Sponsored Company (Stephen Cheney even said a company 'friendly' to the settlement)

I'm not sure you're right about being able to stretch two steps via a Company. If the Company is Sponsored, I believe that means every Member of the Company must also be a Member of the Sponsoring Settlement, so they would have the same restrictions as other Members of the Settlement.

I never saw this constraint explicitly stated, I understand that Company and Settlement choice are independent. The opposite would practically defeat the option to belong to 3 Companies: you would then be limited to chose 2nd and 3rd companies that are either sponsored by same settlement or not sponsored at all - not much sense and players won't understand this complexity.

I believe True Neutral is still a no-go for a CG settlement. One step from CG is CG, CN, or NG.

But (again according to my understanding) belonging to a sponsored company aligned NG or CN would do.

This would open the available citizens up from 33% (CG, NG and CN) of the total player base to 44% (LG, NG, CG and TN). That is a big increase.

I think this is a great idea because ultimately, the size of a settlement's population will play a huge part on its long term survival.

Indeed, that's definitely the reasoning behind the alignment shift of the settlement. I'm anticipating that the "majority" of players will naturally tend towards Good or Neutral on the good/evil axis. Mostly due to Reputation. Let me explain.

It seems that many of the actions that would otherwise cause a character to lose reputation would also coincidentally cause you to lose good-vs-evil points (e.g. murder). Considering many settlements will have a "high" (probably just "positive" for a while) reputation minimum for its citizens, it would not be unreasonable to assume that the same type of characters that meet this requirement are probably not very far into Evil. Therefore it would not be unreasonable for a settlement to align itself along the good side of the chart - neutral good being the best to maintain compatibility.

The only other option would be CN (if they as a CC want to remain CG), but I'm somewhat doubting that they would want to actively turn away Lawful people. Further, they have the choice of moving it all the way to TN, but that might interfere with their plans as a CC. However, that would definitely open it up to 56% compatibility (the max), so it wouldn't be a terrible idea either.

It is my understanding that the intention of this settlement is that it will choose its alignment based on a better understanding of the mechanics of the game, and companies within will simply need to adapt slightly to match. Until those mechanics are completely hashed out, I can't see the alignment of the settlement being a huge point of contention. As long as the CC's within the settlement are understanding with one another and are willing to work things out once everyone is wiser, then I think it will all be right in the end.

In a mutual agreement reached by Deathwatch, Taur-im-Duinath, and The Seventh Veil, we are pleased to announce that Deathwatch will be joining the newly-reformed Taur-im-Duinath settlement (new name TBD later) in the Land Rush Phase II. We believe that by pooling our resources with like-minded groups of individuals we can create a positive community of players with a common and compatible theme. Deathwatch will be adapting somewhat to comply with the Elven requirements set forth by TiD, and likewise TiD has adjusted the settlement description to be a little more compatible with groups such as Deathwatch. Overall, we're very excited to work with our new "roommates" and look forward to building a new settlement together throughout Early Enrollment and beyond.

I would like to get a count of any elves that might be interested in joining the League of Elven Purity if I were to make it a Sponsored Company?

Here are the basics as I have been thinking about them:

Name: The League of Elven Purity

Mission: The mission of the League of Elven Purity is to promote, research, defend and protect all facets of elven culture and heritage. We strive to foster pride in our Elven heritage within all our constituents, whether they are long-time residents or recent arrivals.

Roles Needed:
- Genealogical Researchers and Scribes.
- Artists with an interest or experience in Heraldry.
- Craftsmen and Merchants who wish to promote Elvish trade and crafts.
- Teachers who wish to help with educational programs.
- Warrior to defend and protect our Elvish heritage.
- General Members who share the mission of the League.
