Request: Settlement Influence Leaderboard

Dear Goblinworks,

In order to facillitate settlement management, please consider implementing a tool settlement leaders can use to view the contributions of its members, an influence leaderboard if you will. I envision such a tool as a chart containing a list of every company currently sponsored by the settlement along with a score. That score would be an abstraction of factors including, but not limited to, the following examples:

- Influence currently allocated to settlement resources
- Number of PoI currently held
- Number of outposts currently held
- Lifetime influence earned while sponsored by settlement
- Lifetime days spent holding settlement PoI
- Lifetime days spent holding settlement outposts
- Other factors reflecting a company's contributions to a settlement

In a perfect world, the interface for this leaderboard would have a tab where each factor calculated into the score would be listed along with a weighting value. I imagine it defaulting to all factors being equal with a value of 100. Each weighting value could then be manipulated to alter the relative weight of each factor into the overall score.

The goal is to create a tool for settlement managers to identify which companies are now contributing or have in the past contributed to the success of their settlement. Such a tool would be tremendously valuable and I sincerely hope you consider this suggestion.

Sounds like a good topic for a blog. Perhaps say something about this in the top-most sticky?

Sounds great. All I know is that one of the devs said that the Settlement-leader UI already was a beast, so who knows what you can list and sort and tweak already. Your proposal sounds like a very sophisticated addition to such an UI.

Since Settlements will have Free members too (not part of a Company) it would be good to see their status too. A variable for an individual could be, length of membership(in days), or trade-commision paid. If a Settlement for instance takes a 5% commission for every sale someone does through the local marketplace, this could add up for the Settlement if the guy is a fanatic trader and sells a lot on the marketplace. By tracking individuals you could also "catch" Alts, who may not always be part of a Company but still contribute a lot (crafting, trading)

Not sure if the game can keep track of how many, and which items are crafted, I think that would require too much database-power/storage though, I always hear that this can be a big problem.

This sounds like the sort of functionality we are definately going to see when the game becomes succesful and GW can start spending more money. How soon, I dare not make a guess.

I don't think this is blog material. Isn't this what the subforum is for? Suggestions?

Plus, this is OE stuff. They may not want to talk about it yet.

That being said, this is a great idea.

Not really looking for a blog post about it, but it would be nice to hear whether such a tool may be implemented.

I would prefer that if implemented, settlements can opt out, or better, require opt in or not included.

I'm not sure what you mean by opting in or out. It's a tool. A settlement can choose to use the tool or not. The existence of the tool does not include the settlement into anything that they could opt out of.

Perhaps. As long as the data is entirely anonymized. 99% of the settlement's members may not want the controller to look at information about them, but have no way to actually stop them from doing so unless the settlement can make a decision to lock out access to the data.

Even if anonymized, it may be possible to extract more personal info based on which companies are largest and the kind of effect they are having. In an environment where players' alignments etc may change without their choice, a company's secrets are valuable information. Even if it's just a long, slow, slide into evil that they are trying to keep hidden....
