Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In the forests and mountains, orcs and goblins multiply in their thousands. Amid the stones of a crumbling necropolis, a foul sorcerer raises hordes of zombies. At the borders of gentle kingdoms, dark warlords gather armies and threaten invasion.

Your small band of heroes acting alone may blunt or delay these tremendous attacks, but sooner or later the hammer will fall. Your characters will need to organize grand defenses, arm and equip troops, or march into the field at the head of a mighty host. When that day comes, Dire Destiny Books has your back.

This summer, the people who brought you "The Very Last Book About Mounted Combat" and "The Very Last Book About Alignment" will be publishing the definitive guide to mass combat battle scenarios, including a fun new system that will allow characters to influence the course of large conflicts by using their heroic abilities. The Very Last Book About War

Coming Soon.

I am unfamiliar with any of your previous works, but this subject intrigues me. Will this be a collection of how to articles or will it include Pathfinder material compatible with the Ultimate series of books (with appropriate rules based material) and the mythic rules set?

Scarab Sages

The centerpiece of the book will be a new system which extends normal Pathfinder combat rules (featuring the battle-grid, miniatures, and all of your character's normal abilities and class features) to accommodate conflicts featuring hundreds (or, with a little imagination, thousands) or participants. It uses a different system for mass combat than is found in the Kingmaker and Ultimate Campaign material - one which is less abstract, is closer to the core combat rules, and which allows players and GMs to create a "battle encounter" in which player characters can have an immediate and recognizable impact on the course of the conflict.

Often when a GM wishes to portray a large battle, the players are only given access to a small part of the greater action, or are relegated to highly abstract interactions with the story. This is because normal Pathfinder/D20 combat does not accommodate large-scale warfare. With this new system, Player characters will be able to range over the entire battlefield, either commanding units of troops or just providing heroic help where needed. Spellcasters can shake the enemy with mighty magics, and martial characters can wade into the foe for for a "Bloodbath". Charismatic characters can inspire their troops, and stealthy types can sneak behind enemy lines and assassinate enemy commanders. This is familiar Pathfinder/D20 combat, but on an epic scale. Our goal is for players and GMs to be able to integrate this material into their current games with a minimum of fuss, no matter what other related material they may be using.
