best class / achytype for trapfinding

Grand Lodge

Howdy, I am making a trapfinding dedicated cohort for one of my campaigns. I am at a loss as to what would be the most optimal. 15 point buy. My 2 main race choices are kobold or human. I may be able to talk the DM into a faire dragon (seeker sorcerer). What do you think? The character would be lvl 7.

Half-elf is actually pretty solid: racial +2 to Perception, plus a free Skill Focus that you could put into Disable Device.

If your GM is cool with cohorts having traits, there's a Campaign Trait in the Mummy's Mask player's guide that lets you disable magical traps just like a rogue can (it also gives +1 to Disable Device and makes it a class skill).

Otherwise, you'll want either the rogue class or one of the handful of other class archetypes that allows the disabling of magical traps. Urban Ranger is one such option if I recall, but I don't know the others.

Archaeologist can't disable magical traps until 6, but they're better at it than anyone else.
