I hope I'm not messing up anything for the party. Usually Paizo doesn't play tricks on players by doing things like making very annoying NPCs be essential to success without making it glaringly obvious. Are we supposed to smack sense into him at some point?

Usually if a game has annoying NPCs, I just passive-aggressively mess with their heads. This guy, however, is calling people peasants and mutants left and right and contributes nothing. I figured someone would eventually smack him in the head.
But I would be happy to scale it back. ;)

Put yourself in the guy's shoes.... He's a rich merchant (if memory serves), used to living the soft life, and all of a sudden his city is destroyed and he's stuck underground with a bunch of misfits who doesn't know what he's doing. He's acting up, lashing out in the only way he knows how. He's way out of his element. Yeah, he's an annoying NPC, but his behavior is understandable given where he is. We can probably deal with it without smacking him around.
(Fabian gained a bit of a soft spot for him with the "please" about the third levitation back at the hole we had to climb. Fabian saw there just how vulnerable Horgus really is right now.)
Of course, Dieter is traumatized too, and probably needs to smack some people around as his way of dealing with all of it. With luck, we'll find some goblins or drow or something pretty soon :)

Also do not forget, he knows he is vulnerable. I think he needs the noble act to appear strong, which he knows deep in his heart he is not.

Yeah, not what I would have done, but I understand it, and I'm not going to tell anyone how to play their character. The one thing I know about this AP (as Old Guy said) is it's all about Redemption, so I'd be careful of writing anyone off too soon, though.
As far as Lucille's concerned, you're all part of her herd and under her protection, so she'll overlook a lot to keep everyone alive. But once we get up to the surface...well let's just say the only one's who've really impressed her so far are Kazul and Anevia. :)

Kazul the Bear wrote:Old Guy, I never heard back if Kazul was allowed to take MW chain shirt.Bollwerk offered Dieter the 'other' armor, so I believe the assumption was you got the first one. I'd go ahead and take it.
I totally missed that. Yes, Dieter gladly takes the masterwork chain shirt.

Hey guys --
I'm currently about 50 messages behind because of the move; I'm starting to catch up now. I don't know if I'll catch up in this game tonight, but *hopefully*.
I've been the party treasurer. I've been keeping the unclaimed loot in my profile; click on my name to see it. I've added the 229gp, Potion of CLW, and Scroll of Cause Fear to the list.

Just recalled I haven't 'rolled' my 2nd level hp, is it half or half +1? or an actual roll!?

Please please please pay attention to the maps and the flow of the combat. Its hard enough with a big group, I need everyone to follow along. And if I make a mistake, please let me know then take 1000 xp off of your character and I will fix it.
I'm just kidding about the xp. no Im not
No. Really, I am.

Methinks there is a Slinker and Stinker thing going on here... :)
On a more serious note: I have to admit that sometimes it's quite difficult to keep up with the flow of combat if the map is out of date, and several people have posted since the map was last updated. I had lost track of what the red circle meant, and was taking that to mean that it was one of the enemies that was still up.
One thing that would help me (at least) keep up: if at the end of each post where you do a "GM's update" and advance the combat, could you post a quick summary of the status (as the PCs can tell) of each combatant, including the square he's in? Right now, the status of any given thing could be in any post, and if we haven't succesfully kept it all in our head (nearly impossible in a PbP), we have to go back and read and re-read to figure out the state of each individual thing on the board. A single post to reference with just a few posts after that for updates would make it much easier to keep up.

Based on comments, there is now only one link for the encounter in this mongrel lair. Should be easier. Also, I try to update it as I post, but if for some reason you don't think you are seeing it, let me know.
Having said that, it is also your responsibility to keep up with what is happening. I put a lot of work into these maps, tokens, etc. for the express purpose of keeping a lot of typing down to a minimum. 'Pictures tell a thousand words' as it were. NPCs will have some type of indicator on them, circle, 'x', whatever, to denote something different about them. I usually post what that is as it happens.
It can help as well if everyone does what Fabian does and posts what buffs are running and for how long (or how much longer).

I'd say as reasons go a shiny new car is a good one ;)

And Bollwerk!!
I don't believe I'm in any other games with Lucille or Fabian, sorry :/
| Farasha Aeval |
Do you want to NPC them for now OGGM so we keep momentum going?
Perhaps they can bravely fall in battle if they don't respond to your PMs in a timely manner ;p

bejeweled book of prayers to Baphomet worth 50 gp
We may have a hard time selling this one.
Dieter is fine with all other items being sold for coinage.
| Old Guy GM |
Actually the book won't be hard to sell. A city like Kenabres is full of such things, if nothing else than to keep them away from the masses.
Been waiting for this moment with the sword Radiance. One of my favorite moments in this book. It's a +1 cold iron longsword, but it is destined to be so much more...
