Being, read Managing Your Game Time, Game Client, Characters and Packs.
Hopefully, you haven't played around with Training XP at all. But yes, everyone I know that has a Destiny's Twin account has it working.

I set training for my one character, entered game and logged out. I then created and set training for my second character, entered the game and logged out. I re-entered the game and only my first character had training set. So I attempted to set his training again.
So I am given to understand that I have eliminated my DT?
Allow me to express a bit of dismay. Politely. Quietly.

Already done Giorgio, both by email and in-game. My thinking is that somehow I wasn't set up as a Destiny's Twin account somehow.
In the instructions I believe I missed step 10:
"1.Create your first character
2.Enter the game world
3.Close the game client
4.Start the game client again and log in
5.Create your second character and enter the game world
6.Close the game client
7.Start the game client again and log in
8.On the character selection screen, click "Set Training"
9.Click the training selector button next to your second character so that it and your first character both say "Training"
10.Click the "Set Training" button a 2nd time to lock in your changes
11.Select a character to play and click "Enter World""
Other hand, I am reluctant to try it again until I hear back from customer service.

Actually the training for the first character should have been set automatically after creating it, you shouldn't have had to set it. Then create the second character, log in and out, then set for the second as well and a box would pop up confirming that you wanted to use your DT ability for those two characters.
If you didn't get that confirmation box then something else happened.

Thinking about it, if I have lost DT I cannot lose it more. Therefore I should assume my recollection is correct and I skipped step #10. If I'm right then going it to set training on character 2. I will hope the DT box confirmation box pops up, as Ravenlute suggests.
I'll let you know if this works.

If you never set the second train it hopefully will work.
You may however miss the first weeks XP on the DT as I do not think it backdates like the main will.

It worked <happy dance!>
Essentially I clicked <set training>
Selected DT Character
Toggled from not training to training xp
Clicked set training again (step #10)
Logged DT char in
XP backdated correctly (given I didn't log in at all until just the other day).
Well done, good news.
Ok so to clarify ... your main backdated XP all the way back to the start of EE and the DT also backdated XP but only to the time you first logged in to the account ?

That is what it looks like... but I haven't done the math. So let me think... Character 1 began with 6000 xp. Character 2, created the same night, began with 1000 xp. I trained character 2 to where he had between 250-300 xp unspent, ran him down to Phaeros, then let him lie fallow until I might figure out what I did wrongly. When this evening, with the help of the community (thank you Ravenlute your response was the key) I succeeded in establishing him as the twin he suddenly had in excess of 17000 xp. I think that may calculate out to equal what I have put into character 1.
That is close enough for the Navy.

Glad it worked out. Now just remember to never ever remove training from either character. :)
Yeah whats with that ? Is that permanent or will we eventually be able to swap one characters training to the third character ?
Also regarding Character 3 can we create and train the 1000 Xp to make a throwaway troll char to annoy Golgotha or TEO or whatever or can we never use that slot ever?

I am having a lot of fun playing this game for sure.
but I just learned today that the 3rd charcter is only getting 1000 xp
and I must say this makes me EXTREAMLY angry.
why is it set up this way?
I understand about the destiny's twin only being on two characters and earning xp when not logged on, either of those characters and that you can change which characters this is on. I have no problem with that.
my PROBLEM is why is the third getting no additional xp when I am logged into it? this does not make sense to me at all and I find it extreamly frustrating that there is a 1000 xp limit. I also don't like the idea of above this post of having to PAY for more xp if I want it on the third.

The whole point of GWs business plan is to sell subscriptions, which means training time. $15 for one month's worth of XP generation or $150 for a year (2 months free). They have payroll and bills to pay, and that will be one of their revenue streams. Pay for that, and you get an XP generating character.
In fact, you can see why the Destiny's Twin has been retired. It is a benefit of $150 per year, every year, forever. Pretty damn good bonus is you ask me! (You didn't). But GW needs to earn money.

For accounts WITHOUT Destiny's Twin, they can create 3 characters. They can set one of them to earn xp and change which character at any time. The xp is regardless of logged in or off, based on subscription only. Pay for one month subscription, you get one month xp as it goes by.
For people with a Destiny's Twin, they gain the xp on 2 of the three characters. They can create a third character limited to the usual starting 1000 xp. The downside to preserving the Destiny Twin perk is they CANNOT change who trains xp so the third character is forever stuck at 1000. If you change it, the Destiny Twin perk is lost and at this point it is unknown if it would ever be restored. It has happened this way due to technical difficulties getting DT to actually work and be available in the Minimum Viable Product at EE.

That cap is only there b/c that character can't train XP without breaking DT. So that character gets the xp of a fresh built toon and that is IT.
UNLESS you buy an item that has already been said will come that will be available for purchase with real money that adds XP.
Maybe some day we'll get a better tool for DT and move it around but imagine that is WAY off, and rightly so.

One account allows you to have max 3 characters. Once we get beyond January (and the bonus backdated xp for your first created character), whenever you create a character, it will start with 1000 xp. It will never gain anymore xp unless you turn on Set Training for it which then turns OFF xp on every other character.
Most of us are unwilling to do this if we have a Destinys Twin for the reasons outlined above.
There are currently no definite statements from GW about any other method of getting xp for a character other than paying a monthly sub, which gives you one month of xp to divide among your three characters as you see fit (but don't if you have the DT). So the 1000 xp is not a cap if you don't have Destinys Twin, or if you are willing to wreck your Destiny's Twin (which wouldn't make a lot of sense - the value of 2 characters gaining xp for the price of one means you could probably sell that account and use the money to get a "regular" account and have money left over for bonus time if you really wanted the ability to move xp around freely among all three characters).
I think most people with a Destiny Twin will use there third character slot as a disposable killer or spy, as a temporary porter, or for role-play.
