Death comes to all characters eventually, hopefully as a result of old age, but sometimes when a frank exchange of views with a nasty NPC leaves you on the wrong side of this mortal veil.

There are a few options when it comes to dealing with death in PFS, but they all have different restrictions, conditions and costs. This handy flow chart brings everything together in one place so you can quickly work out how much it's going to cost you to cheerfully mock the reaper!

I'm not really sure why something this simple needs a flowchart, but...in the 'Can anyone in your party cast Raise Dead?', you should probably mention that a lower level caster can make do with a (relatively easy) Caster Level check. It also wouldn't hurt to mention that the cost for the scroll is actually HIGHER than hiring a caster.

This flowchart doesn't include what you need to do if you're killed, then brought back to life as an undead creature by a demon, and then subsequently killed again.

I tried to keep it simple ;)

Paladins have the Ultimate Mercy feat; it could apply.

Is breath of life beyond the scope of this?

Breath of Life, must be cast immediately...before a round passes, basically. It would bypass the slipping this mortal coil aspect, as your soul has not quiet heaed to pharasma just yet.

But it also needs to include when breath of life brings you back alive with no penalties, and when it brings you back, but leaves you suffering from a permanent negative level.

Although almost nobody plays it this way, I believe breath of life does remove all memorized spells from a prepared spell caster.

Quote:
Death and Prepared Spell Retention: If a spellcaster dies, all prepared spells stored in his mind are wiped away. Potent magic (such as raise dead, resurrection, or true resurrection) can recover the lost energy when it recovers the character.

The 3 spells listed give each memorized spell a 50% chance to be retained. while breath of life does not.

Yes but the temporary negative level goes away without a restoration and you do not need to worry about it becoming permanent. If their spells are wiped, they probably should be able to at least prepare spells after being revived in slots they have not used yet that day.
