Scarab Sages 1/5

Hi guys!
I’m going to dm the first official Italian Pathfidner Society event in Milan this Friday, and i bought “The confirmation”.
I’d like to know any tips and tricks you can give me, and if there are complicated parts.
Thank you very much in advance,
Nicola

Have a look at these helpful downloads created by fellow GMs.

Thank you Paz! It's a great site! They will be very helpful!

A small thing I have seen become confused several times:

Spoiler:

When the players get to the cave with the Aroden parables, the party should be able to decipher up to three of them and get to do those mini-rituals... not up to three per character. :) This is to help make each play-through a different experience as it is unlikely any particular player will see much in the way of repeats until they've played it a number of times.

Other than that, have fun! And welcome to the crazy, fun world of the Society!

@ Farrindor Thank you for your suggestion about the parables. I hope all my players will be smart, cause some rituals are very hard.
I'm very excited to dm this society event, i hope will be the first of many!

@Blackbot I know, i forgot to search similar thread... shame on me...

Have some spare paper and pens to hand out when Janira talks about taking good notes, and if you can download or make a print out of all the equipment in Janira's pack when she throws it to the party.

Other than that, have fun! Ask about the players' characters, builds, background, etc. It sounds like you'll be hosting totally new players, so spend a little time going over the purpose and training of the Swords, Spells, and Scrolls.

Good luck, and I hope everyone has fun and it takes off!

Seeing as you can play this multiple times for credit, can you GM it multiple times for credit as well?

4/5 ****

Yup. Can only apply credit to a level 2 character once though. (In addition to playing it at level 2 once)

Thank you all for everything! I'm very excited about the PFS. I've organized a little official event with 25 players and 5 master, but i've never played a Pathfinder Society scenario. In Italy there aren't public Pathfinder Society Events because few people speak english (yes i know, this is embarassing). So i've decide to organize an official event, i've translated this scenario, found the masters and players (I think that at least a quarter of them will'be beginner). After the event i'll post a report with photos and opinions.
Whatever happens, I know we will have a lot of fun!!

This scenario is my favorite one to run. I've played and GMed the Confirmation 3 times each. I hope you have a good time. But be careful to emphasize to your players the deadliness of the Minotaur when they encounter him the first time. I've killed more new characters right outside the caves than anywhere else.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I thought to emphatize the fact that Javira is something like your commander, and the character must obey her, or, as you said, the deadliness of the Minotaur.
But if a player is L/G (There are paladins and monks....) and he decide to stay and fight... welll... it was a pleasure meeting you!!

Sovereign Court 3/5

Enjoyable senario! I GMed twice. In both games, players decided to stand with Janira, instead of listening her. Nobody wants to leave her alone with a minotaur. During fight, I (as Janira) cast grease spell to minotaur's axe, this move helps players a lot.

By the way, skeletons are deadly as well if you are GMing Tier 2 (thus skeletons have advanced template).

Kobold fight is easy.

Have fun!

Thanks God I'll gm the tier 1 version of this scenario.

Btw grease spell on the minotaur's battleaxe it's a great idea. Every round it has to do a reflex throw to attack it with the weapon, is it right?

Grease only forces a save every turn if the subject fails the first save and tries to pick the item up again.

This sounds pretty awesome! I dont know if there is an Italian translation yet, but it looks like you are doing your best despite it.

And not speaking English is nothing you and your friends should be embarassed about. :)

Also if they fight the minotaur before they enter the cave the minotaur's battleaxe won't have the broken condition yet.

And it's a greataxe at that point. :)

I have had a couple of groups choose to fight the minotaur. In both cases, they won: the first time, it wasn't even close. (There are a tricks that low-level casters can use to rob a foe of a round of actions. If the party barbarian and ranger are slugging away for two rounds, on a monstrous foe who is laughing or dazed and is not fighting back, it will go down.) The second time, the minotaur joined a couple of PCs on the ground.

In both cases, Javira expressed her admiration for their battle prowess, and told them they'd learned at least one important lesson: the people giving you orders aren't always correct.

Now that you've pointed that out I see it listed as a greataxe in its combat gear.

The group I ran it for chose to fight and it wasn't close either. It was basically 2 longbow crits and an alchemist bomb.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Ok, now I know I'have to play the Mnotaur coming in part like a professional (totally scary) actor, so all the players will escape inside the mountain...
I think defeat the Minotaur at end, like a final boss is better for the plot instead combat it in the middle, and it seems like you leave your players empty handed, because there aren't other great encounters until di end.

Nicola, the plot plays out differently if they wait until leaving the caves to attack and defeat the (much less powerful) minotaur. But it's a trade-off. If they defeat the creature early in the adventure, they have all their resources, too. If they meet the minotaur after a couple of hard fights, the PCs will be low on spells and resources. So it's just as dangerous to face the minotaur at the end.

More to the point, it's the players' choice. In either case, there's a good fight and a good storyline. One important tip to running a Pathfinder Society adventure, particularly one so open to different choices as The Confirmation, is that the GM doesn't tell the story. The players tell the story, and the GM facilitates.

Some parties flee. Others stay and fight. As GMs, it's our jobs to honor those player decisions and make the game exciting either way.
