Well, here are the size and intelligence parts. As for the aggression, I can testify that a Coonie plays a mean game of Blanket Monster.

Well, I tend to favour Norwegian kitties, so I do know about big, but it is still not what I am talking about here. I am talking about hundred pound cats with brains, claws and tempers. You know, like a Rottweiler cat? Scary doesn't even come close...

On the other hand, the Capybara can weigh as much as a person, so has skipped over into the small end of Medium.
Of real rodents, Beavers are probably closest to Dire Rats in size, but a beaver and a rat aren't really directly comparable.
