Ability score generation

Wrath of the Righteous

Our group is going to be running WotR soon. A friend of mine will be DM'ing, but I'm the one who has the adventure path subscriptions so I have the books, and I haven't had the opportunity to give them to him yet.

He asked me the other day what ability score generation method was recommended, and I wasn't able to find anything specific.

Should we just use one of the standard methods? Or is there a specific method (or a certain number of point buy) that we should use for this specific AP or as mythic characters?

If it matters, our group is all experienced 3.5 players and has run a number of APs in the past, but this will be the first time any of us have actually played using PF rules.

Scarab Sages

The Pathfinder Adventure Paths are built on a 15 point buy, 4 player assumption.

That said, the mythic rules can very quickly blow that point buy out of the water, because with this AP there's the possibility of getting 14 points (10 mythic, 2 quested, 2 from a special NPC) split to your stats (likely just your primary) without considering level, item, or Wish based increases.

So, as a GM myself, I'd strongly suggest either sticking with a 15 point buy, or a 20 point buy and not allowing any stat to end below ten (after racials, even)

I had my players roll their stats (4d6, drop lowest) and they effectively got about 30 point buy each.

Since you're all experienced 3.5 players, and this AP is the only Mythic one, I'd say it's ok to be powerful, but the GM should throw the XP system away and just let you levelup when the time is right, upgrading encounters along the way.

There's a nice thread in this section (http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qmo4?Wrath-of-the-Righteous-statblocks-docume nt) with upgraded foes by book 2 onward. Experienced players usually find the AP as written rather easy and underwhelming, so the upgrades listed should make things more challenging and rewarding.

I do my own upgrades for about +2 CR, about half-way as extreme as the ones in the thread and my players are adequately challenged, but they are only moderately experienced and a few deaths happened, though those could all easily be avoided.

Go for the 15-point build... and then modify Mythic so you only get +1 for every even tier. Between Mythic and reaching level 20, that will still give players a total of +10 to ability scores, not counting other sources.
