I've only played 4 times, twice a week for two weeks now and I have a couple of questions.
How do you buy new armor? I bought Hero Lab and Leaf Armor appeared and I want to buy it, getting rid of my Studded Leather. Can I just buy it and put it on my toon?
Can I buy a Wand of Cure Light for 750 GP? Someone said I need to use Prestige Points AND gold but Hero Lab just has it for the gold.
Thanks! Sorry if these questions are stupid but I love playing, after 12 months of zerging to a completionist in DDO and quitting it, it's nice to be able to play my first table top game ever and enjoy it this much :)

Hi, HokieHWT. Welcome to Pathfinder Society organized play. It's terrific to have you, and it's cool that you're coming here and asking, in order to get things right.
So, let's find out which resource includes leaf armor. My first stop is the Archives of Nethys, at http://www.archivesofnethys.com/ . It's a fan-run site, but it's very good about being up-to-date, and it cites sources.
It says that Leaf Armor appears in several places, including the Inner Sea World Guide, on page 291.
So, let's take a look at the "Additional Resources" document. (That's a link from the "Pathfinder Society" home page. It lists every product that Paizo has published, and whether there's anything in each one that's allowable for use in this campaign. (Some things are too powerful, or unbalanced in the campaign, or just don't fit the background of the Pathfinder Society agents.)
Down about half-way in the document, the AR reads:
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide
...Equipment: all weapons, armor, and adventuring gear on pages 290–293 with the following restrictions: No character may purchase a firearm unless she possesses the Gunsmithing feat and firearms are never considered Always Available.
So, leaf armor is legal. According to the Inner Sea World Guide, it costs 500 gp.
Now, with magic items, you'd want to check to see if your character has accrued enough Fame with his faction (according to page 25 of the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play). In this case, though, leaf armor is non-magical armor, so you can always buy it, even as a first-level character!
Your PC can sell his studded leather armor back for half the price he paid for it, and then use that money to help towards the leaf armor.
--
If you take a look in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play, page 26 has a chart of some of the things that your PC can purchase with prestige. For 2 PP, he can buy a "free purchase up to 750 gp". That is, one item, magic or not, that costs up to 750 gp. Like, for example, a wand of cure light wounds. It just costs the 2 prestige (essentially, you're calling in favors from the Society and your faction heads). It doesn't cost any gold, but you also can't sell it for half price.
If you have at least 5 Fame, you can also decide to buy the wand for 750 gold. That doesn't cost any Prestige Points. (You can't mix and match, though. All Prestige, or all gold.)

Chris is correct, but to add to that and something I posted recently..
Your question and any future similar questions on what is legal outside the Core book can be found in the Additional Resources.
I also suggest you Read the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play, which would have directed you to the additional resources for your question, and every player should read before getting involved with PFS.
For question not answered in any of the above locations another good place to look is the Pathfinder Society FAQ.
If all three of those fail to answer any PFS questions then the PFS boards are a great resource after looking through those above mentioned resources.
Can I just buy it and put it on my toon?
What is a Toon?

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Toon" is local palaver for "player character" in some regions, DM.
I am a GM Damn it!!... Oh wait... you meant DM as a short version of my name... ;)
I was just busting on him, I know what it means, I just like discouraging its use. ;)

You sell the armor you're wearing back for half.
You buy the new armor.
mark the exchange on the chronicle sheet and on the inventory tracking sheet
Unless you're a druid or making a fashion statement, you probably don't want to pay extra for leaf armor. You want masterwork studded leather armor.
Can I buy a Wand of Cure Light for 750 GP? Someone said I need to use Prestige Points AND gold but Hero Lab just has it for the gold.
You can spend 2 pp on a wand.
If you don't use prestige points to buy it, you need to have 9 points of fame (fame isn't expended, but you need to have 9 before they'll give you a wand for cash.)
Thanks! Sorry if these questions are stupid but I love playing
Nope, these are genuinely confusing bits.

Thanks all! I won't use toon anymore but what should I call it? I am a rogue so the leaf armor gets rid of the -1, though I never looked to see if there was any Masterwork Studded Leather but I will. I have 5 prestige points and my sessions says that I earned 5 for Sczarni so does that mean I have 5 fame as well? I bought the Core Rule Book and Ultimate Equipment, have read through them but I will have to give them a good read again. Thanks for all the links! I think I'm going to like it here :)

The usual term is just "character" or "PC". While many posters will recognize "toon", not all will, and some will look down on it because it originates in MMORPGs (I think it started in City of Heroes - that's where I first saw it anyhow.)
Every time you gain Prestige Points, you also gain fame. You can spend Prestige Points on a variety of things. Doing so doesn't affect your fame though.
As for using Hero Lab, make sure that you remember that you still have to have the actual book or pdf to use things for your society character.
You can either check a website like ArchivesofNethys.com or d20pfsrd.com to determine which book(s) things are from or you can find out in the program itself.
As for buying masterwork armour in Hero Lab, on the Armor tab, click the "new magic, custom, or masterwork armor" button, the the "- custom / magic armor -" button. Now you can set up a base item (Studded Leather in your case) and click the masterwork checkbox. You can get armor made of special materials set up this way as well. Once you have the armor set up, make sure you hit the "set" button so that the gp is deducted when you add it to your character.
If you want to spend some Prestige Points to buy a magic item (like a cure light wounds wand), on your journal tab where you record your scenarios (you should create new entries for each one you play), there are Spend and Earn boxes in the "Prestige Award and Reputation Journals" section. If you enter 2 and then hit spend, your PP will be reduced by two. Now go over to the magic item tab and buy a wand of cure light wounds. Be sure to click the "buy for free" box - you just spent PP so you don't have to come up with the GP (you aren't even allowed to buy one for GP yet actually). This represents you using your reputation with your faction to get them to give you free stuff for being helpful to the cause.

masterwork versions of armor cost 150gp more than the base version. You can't make an existing suit of armor masterwork, it has to be that way from the ground up, so you need to sell back the regular suit of armor and buy the new one. Many armors can be made of special materials (such as mithril or adamantine) and some of these are automatically masterwork in quality without spending the extra 150, its included in the cost of the armor.
Any armor that is masterwork can later be upgraded and enchanted to +1, which you have automatic access to in PFS play. at +2 or higher, or if you wish to add special properties, you either need access to this from a chronicle sheet, or have a FAME (your total accumulated prestige) score high enough that corresponds to the total purchase value of the item. this information is in the guide to organized play.
I highly recommend downloading this and checking it out.
Welcome to PFS! maybe we'll see you at a table soon.

Well, you are allowed one Masterwork Transformation item on your character, but I can't see any reason to have that be your armour. (As far as I know the only character using that are ones who are using Heirloom Weapon to get a +2 to one manoeuvre.)

Well, it would be cheaper than selling back, say, full plate and buying masterwork full plate, but it takes either a special limitation, like Heirlook Weapon, or an item that costs more than double the Masterwork Transformation cost to make using the spell worthwhile.
On armor for a Rogue, you might want to consider, instead of going for masterwork studded leather, saving up for a mithral shirt. That is a Core item, so you alreay own the resources needed to buy it. It is actually on the Always Available list, so no problem there, and it gives you a better base AC while allowing a good amount of Dex bonus to AC as well.
