Brigandoom question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I just started my first game last night. It is a solo game to get the feel of it. I am playing four characters, so I have six locations. My first character, and I am sorry I cannot recall the name correctly, Valero or something, explores a region. Finds a blessing, acquires it. No problem. Spends a blessing of the gods to explore again. Boom! He meets the main villain for the whole scenario. Defeats him, but the villian flees..

Since I have absolutely no other characters out yet, because this is only the second card of the game! then...my question...I assumed I cannot close down temporarily any other locations because I do not have any characters at them, even though I have three people available?

I played as though this were the case. I have watched several intro videos and read the FAQ, but cannot find an answer..

Any insights would be nice to let me know if I am on the right track, or I just made a huge tactical blunder.

Thanks!

You should have placed your characters at locations at the start of the game, before any character started exploring the locations. The setup order starts on page 6 of the rulebook. The relevant parts for your question are:

Arrange Yourselves around the Table
Place Token Cards
Draw Starting Hands
Decide Who Goes First

When you place token cards you are placing your characters at the locations they will start the game at. So you could have temporarily closed locations, assuming your characters were spread out and not at the same location as Valeros.

Did you still win? Either way, call it a learning experience. Post other questions if you have them. Good luck on your adventure.

Yeah...what he said. Also, placing token cards before the first turn is not considering "moving" to that location. This matters where certain location rules are concerned.

I recommend starting the character spread out if possible, focusing on locations that they would be good at closing. Thought pay attention to moving restrictions that may hurt or hinder you. One 6 character game started with a villian pull and I was able to limit the villian to 1 of 3 locations right away. Unfortunately the third turn lead to the villian again and I wasn't able to keep him under wraps as well, so the advantage was kind of lost then. Come to think of it I encountered the villian 5 different times that game. The village house actually had 14 cards in it when I finally beat him there.

Good luck, this game is awesome and the people here are very supportive.

Thank you all. I know I had read about placing the token cards, but with all that was going on in my brain, it did not sink in.

I am still working on the scenario, having only put in an hour or so last night. Boy, the time went by quickly!

Thanks again and I am sure I will post another question all too soon.
