Roll a Check When Unneeded

Silver Crusade

I don't think there is a rule against it, but can I roll a check for no reason?

Let's say it is the end of my turn and I want to get rid of my Standard Bearer card. Instead of discarding can I choose to roll a worthless Strength Check and use the Standard Bearer on it to recharge the card?

Thanks!

No. There is a specific rule against that sort of thing. There are certain cards that can be played any time during your turn, and you are free to play those for whatever reason you wish, but you can't do what you described.

Silver Crusade

...dammit...

FYI, here is that specific rule:

Rulebook v2 p22 wrote:
Cards Don’t Do What They Don’t Say. Each card’s powers reference specific situations, and if you’re not in those situations, you can’t play it. If a card says it works on “a check,” you can play it on anyone’s check, but if a card says “your check,” it only works on yours. You can’t play a Cure spell to reduce the amount of damage you’re taking, because Cure isn’t about reducing damage. You can’t play a Detect Evil spell to examine your location deck when your location has no cards. Your weapon doesn’t help you acquire new weapons. Each card tells you what it’s for, and you can use it only for that.

Cards don't create checks, unless they say they create a check. So boons create checks to acquire. Banes create checks to defeat. Playing a spell creates a check to recharge.
