Being focused on 2h weapons, I was looking foward to the magical trident in expansion 3.
Until I read it's abilities.
"Reveal this card AND discard another card to roll strength or Melee dice +1D8+3. You may discard this card to add another 1D8+3"
Plus whenever you use this weapon you take 1 force damage that cannot be reduced.
Is it just me or is this weapon not worth the cardboard it's printed on?
Or am I missing something?

High flat bonuses can pretty much guarantee successes against some of the tougher villains. If you're someone like Valeros with a ton of weapons, then you can just hold onto the trident until you're against a villain or really tough henchman. Discarding a random potion you found really isn't a big deal, especially if you'd end up discarding it at the end of your turn anyway.

But really, discarding a card AND taking 1 unreduceable card? So i home ruled it reveal 1d8+1, discard a card +2,that and take a point of damage +3, your choice......what do you all think?

Yeah that would make it better imo. I understand they want to have weapons that feel diffrent. Still having so many negative points about this, why bother and just take another weapon. If you got lot's of weapon options like Valeros you MIGHT consider it.
Just my 2 cents.

I decided to take Vicious Trident + 1 (shouldn't it be named Vicious Trident + 3?) for Ezren. I haven't had it long yet. Amiri was holding it for a while. But when she decided to drop it I swapped Icy Longspear + 1 for this instead.
I've just taken Ezren's Illusionist role and I've built him as a "deck stacker." He has 2 Augury, 1 Scrying, 2 Haste and 1 Enfeeble (which he can use to put the evaded monster on the bottom of the deck thanks to his role card power). Couple that with Brodert Quink (who he has a good shot at discarding instead of recharging) and I'm doing everything I can to make sure I only encounter things I'm prepared to encounter. Thanks to his Cat he's recharging nearly 100% of the time. He's got Lightning Bolt, Swipe, and even Toxic Cloud for when he fights.
I had been keeping Icy Longspear and a Belt of Giant Strength for when he had to use a weapon. But then I failed a check or two with them. So I looked at the Vicious Trident and decided that playing two cards to use it was no different than what I was doing with the Icy Longspear and Belt of Giant Strength. And if Ezren is going to have to resort to using his weapon, he better make sure he kills whatever he is attacking, so the +3s on it help make sure of that. Discarding 2 or three cards is better than wiping his 7 card hand on a horrible combat check.
I have even gotten lucky enough to use it when it wasn't so costly. I had only two cards left on an encounter, one being the trident, so I discarded the other and the trident and didn't have to take the force damage.

Makes sense, but I personally only give daggers to my Ezren, because these can be recharged like all his other cards. Although he has attack spells, too. I'm looking forward to picking up a Venomous Dagger +2. ;)
