Animal companion in performance combat

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

It looks like my animal companion and I will be going into a performance combat situation. Nos morituri te salutamus!

So, I was wondering if it would be possible for my 3 int companion to make performance combat checks, perhaps by roaring after impressive moves, when I ordered him to do so? If so, what would that require?
A specific trained trick, like I use for combat maneuvers?
1 or more ranks in Perform?
Something else, in place of or in addition to the above?

Handle animal says you can teach it the trick Entertain.

"Entertain (DC 25): The animal can dance, sing, or perform some other impressive and enjoyable trick to entertain those around it. At the command of its owner, the animal can make a Perform check (or a Charisma check if it has no ranks in Perform) to show off its talent. Willing onlookers or those who fail an opposed Sense Motive check take a –2 penalty on Perception checks to notice anything but the animal entertaining them. Tricksters and con artists often teach their animals to perform this trick while they pickpocket viewers or sneak about unnoticed."

If it does not have this trick, you can opt to Push your animal to use it, Handle Animal DC 25.

I do have him trained in that, mostly to convince townsfolk to let him in as part of my show, but it seems rather different than

Performance Combat Check

Whenever a combatant has a chance to affect the crowd's attitude, she makes a performance combat check. The check is a Charisma ability check modified by the base attack bonus of the character plus any ranks the character has in Perform (act), Perform (comedy), or Perform (dance), whichever is highest. Making a performance combat check is usually a swift action, triggered when a combatant performs a trigger action (see the Affecting the Crowd's Attitude section).

I've never used this particular rules set, myself.

But from what you just linked, especially given an int of 3, there is no reason your companion can not do this.

If a DM says that the Entertain trick is somehow not enough (Though it really should be), you always have the back-up option to push it to do it anyway.

Also keep in mind, with an int of 3, the companion can take 'any' feat it qualifies for, not just animal feats. So, any feat option that helps with this particular rules element may be viable for your companion as well.
