[PFS] Undine arcanist — Am I crazy?

So I have an itch to make an undine arcanist for PFS (using an undine race boon I traded for).

Mostly because a water-based race and the arcanist's flavor seem to mesh well to me (probably due to my background in MtG).

But the stats will be a nightmare.

If you were going to make an undine arcanist as a primary caster in PFS, how would you do it?

Cross blooded (your undine wis bonus and wis focus easily makes up for the -2 will saves)
Celestial(Empyreal) blood = wis instead of chr caster +
Aquatic blood + undine = +2 caster level water spells
get the Undine Hydraulic maneuvers feat at 1st.

Take the gifted adept or magical linage trait for the hydraulic push spell.

Now for a 1st level spell (and your racial sp ability) you can bull rush, disarm, dirty trick (blind or dazzle, or trip at +2 level at range. Fun at all levels - its rare for a 1st level spell to be as great at 1st as 20th and this is one that is. Also means at high level have a use for those 1st slots and something good to quicken.

Having dual selection makes for constant nice bonus spells, feats and bloodline abilities that singularly these bloodlines lack. Some healing doesn't ever hurt.

Carry some hankies for the warriors who dedicated their life and feats to being good at one of disarm/trip/dirty trick/bull rush!

Even works for back story the MONADIC DEVA is an aquatic celesial:

The above is really no investment - rest of build be whatever arcanist build you want. Undines rock!

Are the playtest classes allowed to use archetypes from the base classes?

Silly me.. thought arcane caster (arcanist) not new class arcanist.

Boreal bloodline and evocation school? Grab elemental focus cold, maybe ray feats (you could be a good ray mage with the dex) Take amphibious and hydrated vitality.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Arcanist. Class. Stop suggesting bloodlines. Arcanist's don't have bloodlines, Sorcerers have bloodlines.

Go with primary Int. You can dump Str. I'd recommend something around

Str 5 (7-2)[gain 4]
Dex 14 (12+2)[cost 2]
Con 14 [cost 5]
Int 17 [cost 13]
Wis 11 (9+2) [gain 1]
Cha 14 [cost 5]

Advance your Int of course with leveling.

Magical Lineage is an awesome feat. Metamixing is fun. I'd recommend magic missile and toppling. Very fun at low level. Especially if you can find some ways to bump your CL. There is another trait for that.

Not currently, no.

@Everyone—I linked the current version of the class in my OP; please note that it's substantially different than what's in the playtest document.

Thinking about this some more, I think a lot will depend on how important CHA becomes in the next iteration of the class.

I have an Undine race boon that I've been trying to do something with, and I got excited when I read your suggestion, but upon closer inspection this combination isn't legal. The Crossblooded and Wildblooded archetypes both modify the Bloodline Arcana and Powers.

Just FYI for anyone else reading this that got the same ideas.

Scarab Sages

1-level dip of Sorcerer (Wildblooded Empyreal), Eldritch Heritage (Aquatic) feat. However this is also impossible at the current moment as the Arcanist cannot multiclass into either of its Parent Classes which are Wizard and Sorcerer.

Not sure that having to wait until 5th level to get my 2nd-level spells is worth it.

To be honest, its not worth it. Each dip in a slow spell progression class like Sorcerer or Arcanist makes it that much more agonizing when other casters in the party are already at their 3rd level spells.
