Shadow Clock Location

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hi Ray here,
A quick rules clarification. I have just finished the deck in the Shadow Clock location, but I have no ally in my hand to banish, which is the requirement to close it. Can I banish an ally that I have in my discard pile or do I have to wait for an ally to reappear in my hand or move another character over and wait for the same occurrence to close it?
Cheers Ray

You can't banish an ally from your discard pile; it has to be from your hand. So you either have to wait to draw an ally, or send a character there that has an ally in their hand, in order to close the location.

Cheers,

I defer to common sense and will return to the game (although I think the rules should be specific about this).

I think Merisiel has gonna have to come into town, climb the clock and sacrifice her pet sabre toothed tiger to the gods, (when can she find where she put her?!!)

Thanks everyone!

As a long shot, you can close every other location first, at some point, you'll beat the villain (probably repeatedly) and then the villain will have to eventually end up there, and you can close the location, sacrifice free!

For the record, the rules ARE specific about this: If you read the description given for the meaning of "Banish" you'll find that it very clearly states the card comes from your hand. In fact, discard, bury, display, banish, etc. ALL refer to using a card from your hand.

Hi I cannot find where it says this. On p.10 of the Rulebook for Banish, it says;

Banish: put it back in the box, shuffling it in with the other cards of the same type (thus losing it for good).

As I said common sense suggests it's from your hand but I've yet to have anyone show me where it specifically states this, therefore the rule technically is up for dispute.

I'll admit I'm not technical and play within the spirit of the rules as Mike has suggested. However there are other players that I know of that could exploit this omission.

Can someone quote where this is said either from rulebook or FAQ to put this silly argument to rest.

Cheers Ray

Will you also argue that you can discard a card from your deck instead of from your hand since the rules aren't explicit? E.g. do you play that Lini can discard a card from her deck to change her STR to 1d10?

Come on... you play cards from your hand. When you need to "banish an ally to do x" then you need to pay this cost from your hand, which means you need an ally in your hand.

The part on page 10 that you reference is found in the section titled, "playing cards". Since the rules make no mention of being able to play cards from anywhere other than your hand, I don't see why this should cause confusion.

I'm being pedantic.

Lets draw a line under this thread and move on.

Thanks everyone.

Cheers Ray
