Pseudo-monk Sighting

In the video link provided by Ryan on the Goblinworks Facebook page where he says: "You can see my presentation at GamesBeat 2013 at 03:23:00 on this video feed:"; if you look at the last scene showing fighters in a group on a hill (at 3:27:22) there is a figure on the left with what looks like an unarmed strike stance. He has what looks like a hand wrap on his right hand and nothing in his left. This gives me great hope for building a reasonable pseudo-monk in EE as there appears to be unarmed strike graphics at Milestone 3. I await with anticipation and salivation.

As much as I wanted to see this, I could not. The 'stance" you were referring to, was this the figure at the front-left? Yes he had no weapon, but he was also wearing metal armor.

I think what Harad was commenting about is that unarmed attacks will be coded into the game. So that is a good sign for the future monk skill tree.

I did not intend to imply that the figure (yes, the left front figure) was a monk role. I was just happy that there is evidence of unarmed strike graphics which will make a pseudo-monk build in EE easier and more immersing. If combat maneuvers are available the build becomes even more to my liking.

Indeed, he seems to be striking the same pose as the guy on the left (who has a sword) but with no weapon in his hand. To me it either suggests unarmed strikes or a mage.

As Qiang Tian Zsu pointed out, the figure is wearing metal armor which is usually prohibited (in Pathfinder TT) to a mage. He also has what appears to be a set of "steel knuckles" on his right hand. This suggests to me an unarmed strike item that could hold keywords.

Even hand-wrappings can have progressive quality levels and hold key words.

That's good to see. I hope all the core classes have at least a few of their core features they can start training while they wait on the full release of their class.

Tbh, it's just a character without a weapon. There's no work done on monk-type combat.

Dreams shattered! Oh noes! (Well, they'll be in. Sounds like a crowdforging item to be on the list!) I remain hopeful for all those wanting to play druids and monks! You can wait on the half-orcs. We Dwarves could do without them for as long as possible.

I didn't think that there was Ryan. But I live in hope. Harad Navar may have to fight with 2 daggers in EE rather than 2 fists.

Question - will there be weaponless combat...brawling, pummeling, overbearing, throwing a good old fashioned punch...?

Goblin Squad Member

Or kick to the groin? :P

Our initial design focuses on combat actions being provided by gear. That is where we'll start Crowdforging.

I think we will all be looking forward to that.
