Maintaining Concentration While Using The Trap Spotter Rogue Talent

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

My rogue/Wizard in the group is thinking of taking Trap spotter as his rogue talent. He wants to know if he could maintain concentration on a spell, that has concentration as it's duration, while using the trap spotter talent?

Yes. Using the perception check granted by trap spotter is a non-action and will not interrupt concentration, which is a standard action.

He'll even have a move action available while concentrating.

Correct, trap spotter basically makes it a non-action. It does require that he come within 10' of it though, which can be risky.

Now, if he's actively searching for traps (which grants you a greater area scanned for traps than 10'), it's a different story.

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it.

Actively searching for traps is, I believe, still only a move action and should not interrupt concentration.

As long as your character can take a standard action each round he can maintain concentration.

Yes, he can use standard to maintain concentration but it's going to make him stationary every other round. Sorry, I misread the original post and thought the Wizard was casting a concentration spell that was aiding in his trapspotting; I need a nap, heh.
