Bad guy's revenge *spoilers*

Curse of the Crimson Throne

So, my group has finished the AP. They beat the queen, broke the crown & actually gave the pieces to an azata to hide in the upper planes.
I also ran Academae of Secrets, which the PCs survived. They broke the demiplane & let all tje souls loose.
So, they've really messed Lorthact, however unintentially. I'm coming up with nada trying to find inspiration for Lorthact's revenge. What, if anything, have other people done?
One PC is now head of the temple of Sarenrae. One became field marshall. One is just wandering Varisia trying to find himself & one has basically built a dojo & shrine to Iori. The two elves have retired from the human world & have gone to Kyonin (neither player wants to play their character again).

The Exchange

Sorry I'm not gonna answer your question (nothing from my top of my head...), but...

man, congratz on finishing the campaign! Awesome for you and your group! any chance for a report on the Ileosa fight? did you run the last module as written, or introduced any juicy stuff of your own? did you alter Ileosa or was she still a bard in your game? did you do your own conversions or used some of the internet guides? what were some epic moments in your campaign? how would you rate each adventure, now that you are finished? do you think adventures 4 & 5 are as disruptive to the plot as some people say?

come on dude, you finished the greatest AP ever! share a little!

I never included the Acadamae of Secrets in my game, so it never really occurred to me to do anything with Lorthact after the Queen was defeated.

That said, the Dwimmerlaik is statted up in the Inner Sea Bestiary if you need his CR25 stats. Beyond that, Lorthact has huge influence as the head of one of the great families. He also has a college full of wizards at his disposal (and he can dominate at will in case they aren't too keen on his ideas).

The tricky part is, Lorthact cannot openly go after the PCs, because drawing the attention of Eiseth, Whore-Queen of the erinyes, would be his doom, or at least force him to abandon all that he's built in Korvosa.

I think the easiest one to go after is the Field Marshall. Also, who is currently sitting on the Crimson Throne? Keep in mind that Toff Ornelos is the head of a Great Family and has a lot of influence in that decision. If the Arkona family still exists, perhaps Lorthact strikes a deal (wish I thought of that while my game was still running). If the Arkonas were destroyed, then the Ornelos family has that much more sway.

First: Toff Ornelos can flex his influence to make old-thinking members of the aristocracy and bureaucracy start wondering if all of that money to rebuild the guard or erect shiny, new temples is really where Korvosa ought to be using its resources. The Sable Company is the true defender of Korvosa anyway! Why else would Ileosa have disbanded it while the Guard remained? While these heroes were the right people for their time, they are lowborn upstarts that are destroying the status quo.

Second: The player wandering Varisia is assaulted be devils. Possibly foolish devils that say things like: "you will pay for your crimes in Korvosa!" or "you have no idea whom you've crossed, mortal!" or something in that nature. Almost killing the wanderer will maybe bring him back with dire warnings.

Third: Corrupt the guard. Seeing as how Lorthact can dominate person at will (and do it while perfectly disguised as the field marshall...), have him create some corrupt guards who commit heinous crimes. This will begin turning the hearts and minds of Korvosa away from the new Marshall and the rest of the heroes (by association). I suppose this works for low-level monks and clerics as well.

I haven't got a fourth yet, but hopefully this gives you a spark.

Have a good one!

Yes, indeed you have managed to spark some ideas. Thanks much.

This actually the second time I've run this AP to completion. The first group hated the 4th adventure, until the end when the actual plot caught up to them. They loved the 5th adventure.
The second group was okay with the 4th adventure, but found Scarwall to be such a drag that it sapped their enthusiasm for the 6th adventure.
I actually borrowed a number of items from this very forum. And I made the Queen's physicians & Davalus alchemists. Makes more sense.
