Hello,
Can someone please explain the difference between the Rope Dart and Kyoketsu Shoge? I see one has "reach" and one has "blocking, distracting" can someone please explain how that plays out with these weapons?
Also, has anyone ever used a Kusarigama? I'm curious as to how that works, I take it you declare at the start of your turn which side you're using but essentially you can threaten 10ft distance and if they close in on you then next turn you declare you're using the sickle part and threaten 5ft distances. Is this essentially the only dual 10ft and 5ft weapon? (I'm planning on using this in PFS if that says anything)

Kusari Gama threatens both 5 feet and 10 feet, like the 3.5 edition spiked chain from before pathfinder nerfed it. so does the meteor hammer
the blocking property adds a +1 shield bonus to AC
Reach doubles your natural reach (threaten 10 instead of 5, or if large, 15-20 instead of 5-10)
don't remember what distracting does
but reach weapons work wonders for generating attacks of opportunity and are generally a must in a combat reflexes build unless you have some ability that threatens an attack of opportunity for a 5 foot step or denies a concentration check. which mostly existed in 3.5

Thanks Lumiere.
Unfortunately for the Kyoketsu Shoge this just made me further confused though. The weapon is 1d4dmg x2crit with 20ft range, it includes disarm, grapple, monk, reach.
How does the KS work in terms of reach? Is it 1d4 dmg at 5ft range, 10ft range, and up to 20ft range? I'm assuming you can attack with it JUST LIKE the Kusarigama except there's no change in damage with the KS at any range from 5ft-20ft. Also, adding the Lunge feat would increase this weapon's threat range by how much? (to how much? 25ft, 30ft, 40ft?)
Also, I don't understand Meteor Hammer either....it states it has 1 or 2 weights attached to a 10ft chain, that you can whirl and wrap around an opponent and drag the opponent 5ft closer......but it has NO RANGE listed in the table.....Does that mean you can only attack with it at 5ft range and drag them into YOUR 5ft square?
Sorry but some of these Eastern Weapons are a bit confusing and lack some details that I think should have been finely stated....Thanks and looking forward to your answers!
EDIT: Also Kusarigama has "double" which I believe you have to declare at the start of your turn what side/range you're using..... Looking at Kyoketsu Shoge it doesn't have a "double" special....so I'm assuming that you don't have to declare any range but you threaten anything within a 20ft range........

Kyetsu Shoge threatens out to 5 and 10 feet as a melee weapon, or a 20 foot ranged increment as a ranged weapon.
meteor hammer threatens 5 and 10 as well, and can swap between blocking property or double weapon. both with reach.

So, essentially the KS is one of the most overpowered weapons at the moment then? Since you don't have to state what part you're using you're always threatening up to 10ft as a melee, and can throw out to 20ft and retrieve as a free action? Add lunge onto this and I assume you threaten out to 15ft for Attacks of Opportunity?
Is there anything official stating that meteor hammer threatens 5-10ft? I don't see "blocking" or "double" specials for Meteor Hammer...just reach and trip. Also it's Range has a "-" and it's just a 1d8dmg with x2crit.
Just wandering on these because I'm thinking of playing a Kensai and using them in PFS which will have strict rules on how they are used (if they even know how they are used properly.)

Ok so the Meteor Hammer when in Fortress mode gains reach to threaten up to 10ft and gives +1ac or you can use it in Meteor Mode as a double weapon? so 1d8/1d8 with offhand penalties as normal?
I still think according to the description and chart the Kyetsu Shoge is really powerful. Essentially it states it can be either Slashing/Piercing/ or Bludgeoning damage. It doesn't state which methods allow disarming or grappling...I'm going to assume 5ft range for grapple and disarming at any range since it has a hooked blade?
Along with the trifecta damage option you have the ability to attack at 5 or 10ft range and use Attacks of Opportunity at those ranges and you can throw it at 20ft distance? Is that thrown like "I threw it and it's gone now" or thrown like "I just launched this object out at the enemy and I'm now pulling it back to myself since it's on a chain"?

i really don't know that portion. and if you sought to pull it back, i would consider it a move action due to the fact you have to reel the chain back. know rule on throwing it though,
though with 50 feet of twine, you could hypothetically retract a thrown dagger from out to 50 feet instead of 20.

So looking at the actual use of a Kyetsu Shoge on Youtube and NOT seeing detail in the description of the weapon I'm now assuming that you may Disarm or Grapple at a distance of 10ft. I'm thinking the 20ft distance is if I threw the weapon and released it (meaning it's gone, bye-bye, cya-later, can't pull it back.).

This weapon seems like spending a feat on it wouldn't be a horrible idea for a character. It looks much better than a Rope Dart at least. What do you guys think?

i wouldn't rate it as worth the feat. unless you had a ton of feats to spare and could afford to throw one away on an exotic weapon.
