Building first rogeu / ninja

Advice

Ok, so I'm very new to roleplaying games and my only previous experience is my first campaign with a lvl 4 barbarian so I'm looking for any and all tips/advice on my build.

Concept: Kitsune ninja with a high dex build. Stats are rolled at....

Str: 12 (-2 racial) 10
Dex: 18 (+2 racial) 20
Con: 12
Int: 14
Wis: 12
Cha: 16 (+2 racial) 18

I'm looking at a ninja build guide currently but my concern is that I'm building a melee dex build and with Kitsune having claw claw bite natural attacks I'm not aware of a way to translate that into greater damage. I'm not sure if there's a feat/trait/ninja or rogue talent that can help me out there? Is it possible to create a melee build w/out str or no?

I already have weapon finesse feat at first lvl so that my attack bonus is off my dex but how can I improve damage? The other drawback is the fact that natural weapons only have a crit range of 20 :/

One mandatory item you'll need is an Amulet of Mighty Fists with the Agile weapon property. That will let you add your Dex instead of Str to damage. Ultimately you'd want to get AoMF Agile +4, but that's way down the line.

You're also underestimating natural attacks. Both claws and bites are primary natural attacks, so that means you have three attacks that are all made at full BAB bonus and strength damage (or dex damage when you get your amulet). That's three attacks at your highest to hit that you can deal sneak attack damage with :O

For your talents/tricks suggestions:
-Vanishing Trick is very nice and if you ever make it to level 10 you can get the better version that gives you Greater Invisibility.
-Pressure Points lets you deal 1 str or dex damage when you sneak attack, no save. And you have three sneak attacks potentially per round.
-Wall Climber gives you a climb speed which is pretty cool.
-Fast Stealth... so you can stealth faster.

Does sneak attack apply separately to all three attacks or is it one per attack round? I expected the damage would start off really good with the three nat attacks but I was just concerned about how the damage would evolve as my character levels seeing as my only prior experience is with a barb str build.

What about a Freebooter/Trapper Ranger?

You will be a better Rogue.

Sneak Attack applies to all of your attacks as long as the conditions for Sneak Attack are met. Most likely you won't get the same levels of damage that your Barbarian got, but you can still manage to be respectable. With Vanishing Trick you could at least get one Sneak Attack per round in most circumstances.

One big issue is that you need to meet requirements to Sneak Attack, which hurts a lot as far as damage potential goes. Another issue with Rogue/Ninja is the lack of any hit increasing class ability, so that means the Rogue/Ninja that tried to use Two Weapon Fighting to increase their potential number of sneak attacks has to take a negative to their attack roll that they really can't afford. With natural attacks you don't have that problem so that's something. Also consider this: you have three attacks at level 1. That's the same amount as a 15th level rogue without TWF or the same amount as an 8th level Rogue that does, and you have a better chance of hitting. As far as Rogue/Ninjas go, you're doing good.

Not sure what either of those are/entail :P Are they archtypes? If so I just really want a ninja lol

Flanking gives me the ability to sneak attack even if I'm not in stealth correct?

That's correct.

Ninja Class, or Ninja flavor?

Depends on the amt of flavor.

Grand Lodge

So, you want to be sneaky, fight with natural weapons, and what else?

Well I was intending on using both feats of the kitsune at some point.

Magical Tail (for invisibility)
Realistic Likeness (allows me to precisely mimic the physical features of any individual I've encountered at a +10)

edit: Also, if I am interested in improved critical can it be on my natural attacks? And if so would it be a "claw or bite" situation or apply to all natural attacks?

And not sure if I should deal with poisons or not? Don't know anything about them

The reason I suggested Ranger, with the Freebooter and Trapper archetypes, is that you will have free feats that help with the Natural Weapon style, Full BAB, a D10 HD, two good saves, and 6 skill points per level.

You will also be able to Disable traps, and boost allies.

I think I'm more into the idea of it than the mechanics. A fox-like shape shifter ninja just sounds like a badass and extremely interesting character to role play. Although I'll have to do some studying to better pull off the personality.

I also have the trait, "dirty fighter" which grants 1 additional base damage when flanking so would that apply to all three attacks as well?

However, I'm actually more interested in DMing and I'm creating a group of characters as a test group so that once I have enough background and experience in this I can run my own personal campaigns. I used to write novels and this is the kind of stuff that inspires me which is why I actually started it. I will definitely take your ranger idea into consideration. I could possibly have another Kitsune as a Freebooter in the party.

Lets see....
Ninja, Fighter (or another class dunno yet), Ranger Freebooter, Synthesis Summoner, Cleric. Does this seem like a reasonable group dynamic or no??

Well, put on a Shinobi shōzoku, invest some ranks in Acrobatics, and Stealth, and you are Ninja.

You don't need levels in Ninja, to be a Ninja.

Just saying.

Grand Lodge

Yep - A monk can be a 'Ninja' (they make good ones) and Alchemists, with the right skills and potions also make very credible ninja.
