Force shield ring and crane wing

Rules Questions

Wayfinders

I posted this in the advice forum and realized I should have posted it here.

I was wondering if these 2 can be used together. The description for ring of force shield says:
This ring generates a shield-sized (and shield-shaped) wall of force that stays with the ring and can be wielded by the wearer as if it were a heavy shield (+2 AC).

Does wearing and wielding this still leave you with a free hand (the requirement for crane wing) if your weapon is in your other hand?

If you are gaining the AC I would have to say no. That hand is being used to manipulate the heavy shield. You actually have to still 'wield' the force shield.

If it were active and you weren't getting the AC bonus (not wielding the shield) then your hand should be considered 'free' for the purposes of the feat.

The ring of force shield counts as wielding a heavy shield with that hand. You can deactivate and/or reactivate the ring as a free action, which means you must do it on your turn.
