A quick thought exercise anyone?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I have begun to develop the opinion that 100 hit points is one of the most major benchmarks in a character's career. Now as I have begun to get less random with development my next step is to implement average hit points after the maximum at first level in keeping with bestiary and npc power level. Now as to the thought exercise I would like to see how quickly you out there can reach 100 hit points not counting temporary hit points using max at level 1 and average thereafter with standard wbl. All core material is good. No races outside core.

Barb's get d12. They will hit it first.

Max con, take toughness. Pick a race with a con bonus. So, assuming 20con, with toughness and barbarian levels you get:
1st level 20
2: 11
3: 11
4: 12
5: 12
6: 12
7: 12
8: 12

That hits 102 at level 8. If you get a belt of +4 con, you'll hit 104 at level 7. What were you thinking would happen?

We must be crunching differently I got precisely 100 at level 7 with toughs and the favored class.Wasn't looking for a competition or obtuse posters just seeing how fast various hd would reach the mark thank you Mr Krabb.

Ahh, yeah, forgot to do favored class. Gives me 97 at level 7. Or with a +2 belt of con you'll get 104. With a +4 belt you can hit 96 at 6.

Well consider if you will the bestiary would have us doing 6.5 hp after level one which as they explain works out as 7 even numbered levels 6 on the odd numbered levels. So, that means the base for d12 before modifiers as a pc mind you, would be crunching12,7,6,7,6,7,6. Then we add 7 for toughness and the 35 from con to get 100.

Ah, I was just doing 6.5 round down to 6.

Ah that clears that up then.

Don't forget retraining.

Since a level 5 character could have a belt for +2 CON within the WBL levels, that would be 12 + 6 (CON) + 1 (FC) + 1 (Toughness) for a total of 20/level which means he hits 100 HP at level 5 in games where the GM allows this kind of retraining.

And as we know this still amounts to slight advantage in most cases for the players as monsters don't get max hp on their first hd nor do they have the opportunity to receive a favored class hit point each hit die.

Retraining? Other than fighter bonus feats or inquisition teamwork feats or the pfs level one1 thing that's a Homebrew switch that doesn't apply here unfortunately.By the way even with a +2 belt the level five barbarian is still only sitting at a very beefy 83 hp.

Oh Ultimate Campaign just came out so new splat everywhere. Well I did state core only.

Not to nitpick, but you did say "No races outside of core" and I did say "in games where the GM allows this kind of retraining".

Not allowing for it gets us back to numbers that were already given.

Yes Apologies the older I get the more reluctant I become to incorporate the latest options having seen the outcomes enough in hindsight. I have slowly become more inflexible about new... well new.
