Yup. Thats part of what makes them so different from gnomes in other fantasy settings. Given that a huge part of their racial identity lies in the whole Bleaching affliction, and one of the major ways one can tell a gnome is "Young and healthy" lies in just how vibrant their skin, hair, and eye colors are, this extends beyond just being extra cosmetic resources. Gnomes actually NEED that stuff if this is to be set in the Golarion setting.

And considering their "Fey-ness" they are more elf than Golarion elf. I personally grew up on "The Fantasy Trip" so I am for tall slim elves...but I know many people prefer the diminutive elves of other "realms"...for the hard core fantasy readers.
Personally, Gnomes in Golarion are so unique, I cannot pass up the chance, even if I have to play at 50% normal scale. Speaking of whicvh, I hope reach, aka height actually matters. If I want to play a 3 ft 35 lbs character, I should have repercussions, good and bad...can you say knockback...

*Sigh* I am just bored... A gnome may save my life some day. I will pad the backpack and build in a mini bar. =P
*looks upon BL horrified* But...but...look at this plant here...no....no...chech out the colors on this rock...no! Don't let the bleaching take you........
....noooooo.....!

Echo the bleaching point - also I'd explore the Fey element magically (spells and prestige classes). If they have a unique psychology (gnome logic?)then that would be interesting, likewise there is a slight divine magic schism (for non-druid gnomes) in my opinion and possibly throw in some unique equipment(for those that like inventors).

So how does GW make the Bleaching a real mechanic?
I'm not sure they should. I haven't read more about it than can be found here so there might be more to it than what I think but,
Would bleaching be fun for the players or just a hassle?
Is it not reasonable to think that gnome PCs (player characters) will be sufficiently stimulated to avoid being affected by it?
Would it not be sufficient to allow for duller skin tones and hair colors to display this effect for those who might want to RP being bleached?

Those are halflings, not gnomes.
Per Dragonlance, in the book 'Dragons of the Summer Flame', the Irda state Kender are descended from Gnomes. When the Greygem was released those gnomes who desired it out of greed were turned into Dwarves, but those who desired it in curiousity were turned into Kender.

My favorite 3.5 character was a Gnome Paladin Valley Girl on a riding dog that use to have fly cast on her mount and Ride-by-Attack indoors.
She died doing it one day and reincarnated as a wood elf.
One of the stupidest things Wizards did in 4th ed was getting rid of gnomes and replacing them with idiotic dragonborn in an effort to suck in warhammer and WoW kiddies.

D&D became horrible. I never looked at 4th to find out if it was good.
Speaking of horrible, I played the beta of the new Neverwinter game. Wow though, I couldnt even get to the first town before I deleted it. What a waste... Especially when you have Neverwinter Nights or Baulders Gate to work off of...
Gnomes have to be added to the game, maybe not at the start but eventually.

Hmm, I was looking at the new Neverwinter game as well. I'm assuming you don't recommend it...
I like gnomes. I also like halflings, but I like the old-fashioned ones with a beer gut and hairy feet, not the new incarnation as nine-year-old children. Pathfinder managed to keep the hairy feet, so I can forgive them the lack of emphasis on pies.

...
My limited observation is that it is most worth the while if you enjoy crafting adventures for others. The game itself isn't bad, but the story, at least as far as I have progressed, isn't something I would spend time or money for. Character type/variety is extremely limited. Resources for RP are overlooked, and the PvP is unimpressive. Animations and some visuals are very good. Sound is good. As a 'free' game I found it frustrating and expensive, but that expense will vary with the player's willpower.

I thought the animations were horrible. When a zombie (skeleton maybe) it seemed to bounce at me instead of walk. And I dont remember the name but I can tell you this... I honestly couldnt tell if it was a skeleton or a zombie.
The character choices were pathetic. A couple races and a couple classes that gave you no options. Some on the forums said it was 4th that was that way... if thats the case I hope WotC sells the D&D name to Paizo so Pathfinder and D&D can be merged into one game. D&D game, Pathfinder world setting. (I consider it that anyway)
Oh and no Gnomes in the game.

I've just downloaded and played it.
Yuck.
It reminds me of the old pub video machine game where you played as a barbarian, knight, wizard or ranger. I had hoped to choose a first level spell, or at least to make a few choices for character development along the way. Nope. You're a Control Wizard (what the hell does that mean, anyway?) and all Control Wizards come from the same factory. Obviously in the new Forgotten Realms there is an approved wizard school where you learn wizardry by rote, and get punished for any sort of individuality.
Yeah, it reminded me all too painfully of D&D4.0.....

Pathfinder pretty much is D&D these days. Its solidly based in D&D 3.0 and 3.5.
WotC dropped the ball with 4th Edition, it removed all the fun amusing interesting aspects of oldschool tabletop D&D as well as a lot of the challenges and replaced them with a "you too can be instantly cool with no time or any effort" game designed to appeal to pimply high-schoolers with access to daddies checkbook. To make matters even worse they moved the whole setting from its tradtional Greyhawk roots to Neverwinter presumably to appeal to Drizzt fanboys and NWN fans. It did not work out well for them.
