Round 3
Emerging from her hiding place, Liane and Peral fly from K12 to K17 then H20. Midway through the flight, Liane turn in the saddle an let an arrow fly towards Durgrosh.
Liane
standard actionbow attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
move action to get Pearl to use full defense, DC25 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
bow attack 24, damage 8
Durgrosh Blacksun
Hit. Again nice shot.
Quick as a flash, Durgrosh appears from behind the wall. He then moves and leaps up into the air, easily putting you within his enlarged reach and attempts to slice your bow in half with his razor sharp sword.
Move to HI15-16 as a swift action.
Move to GH18-19 and leap into the air 5' Acrobatics DC 20 = 27
Sunder attempt = 31 vs your CMD
Sunder damage to your bow = 21 (this damage is not reduced by hardness for this attack)
Durgrosh Blacksun
If I need to use all of my movement to get to that point I can do so to leave me with exactly 0' allowed movement at 5' up but I thought that was kind of dumb to require but I can easily do that by changing the squares I moved to.
Relevant rules: Page 194 Accidentally Ending Movement in an Illegal Space:
Sometimes a character ends its movement while moving through a space where it’s not allowed to stop. When that happens, put your miniature in the last legal position you occupied, or the closest legal position, if there’s a legal position that’s closer.
The closest legal position for a jumping creature out of actions would be falling to the ground.

I understand that, my point is that you're not stopping you movement at 5 foot in the air, then attacking, then falling back down. The jumping and falling is part of the same movement.
I could not find anywhere in the rules saying you are allowed to jump up then attack while in the air.| Durgrosh Blacksun |
There is nowhere it says you can't either though. It does say specifically that you can make an attack at the end of your movement which this would be. I think we probably need a ruling. If it is impossible to jump and attack (which is kind of stupid, not you just if that is the case) then I will just submit because that means its impossible for me to hit you.

I understand your position. I have to say I made my move counting that it was not possible. If it is, I've got another set of tactics that I would have implemented.
The Arbiter
To the best of my knowledge, a character's illegal movement isn't 'resolved' until the end of their turn. If someone can link me to the page on this, I would appreciate it, as I was having trouble finding the exact rules on illegal movement. Either way though, there being literally no way to jump and attack an opponent seems quite dumb, no matter how RAW we're attempting to stay.
Llaelian
In my games, we allow jump and attack only with spring attack.
The rules you're looking for is:
Accidentally Ending Movement in an Illegal Space: Sometimes a character ends its movement while moving through a space where it’s not allowed to stop. When that happens, put your miniature in the last legal position you occupied, or the closest legal position, if there’s a legal
position that’s closer.
But it does not say anything about when you should resolve the move.
Durgrosh Blacksun
The general consensus I have found on the boards is that stopping movement in midair after a jump can go one of two ways. Either you A) fall after your actions or B)you need to use a portion of next rounds movement to land next round and basically pull a matrix effect. Now if you want to get really technical you could ready an action to attack when getting within reach of the enemy which will interrupt the fall but that seems needlessly complicated for something so basic as jumping and throwing a fist in the air. A better analogy would be a little kid jumping with a butterfly net to catch a butterfly over their head. I'm fine with however the ruling goes as far as the technical aspects but the bottom line is that the actions should be legal and I think RAW shows that...or at least does not prohibit it.

Ok, we don't have a ruling yet, but for this fight, let's proceed as if your move was legal. I'd like a definitive answer before I chose equipment for next fight, though.
Steadying herself in her saddle, Liane clutches the two halves of her bow and for the first time you hear her swear profusely. Disgusted, she drops her bow on the hughe orc below. Reaching into her bag, she fetches a small vial and send it crashing on the massive Orc where it explodes.
Then, spurring her mount, she crosses over the arena to H4.
Liane

standard action throw vial: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 2 = 23, damage 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
Pearl move action to H4
Ranged touch attack 23 , damage 8 (fire),
Reflex save asa full round action DC15 or take another 1d6 damage next round. +2 on the reflex save if you roll on the ground.
Llaelian's gladiator 1
Sorry, I did not see you updating your post.
Round 5
Driven by Liane, Pearl moves behind the pillar and disappears. You hear a spell being cast and a cloud of fog slowly fills up a half sphere centered in F-G4-5 with a 20' radius.
Extra flame damage 5
Pearl moves to G4 and Liane draws spell of obscuring mist and casts it. concentration check DC 11: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Then Pearl moves again
For better figuration,
at level 20-25', obscured cases are C4-5, D2-7, E2-7, F-8, G1-8, H2-6, I2-6,J 4-5
at level 15-20' obscured cases are D4-5, E3-6, F2-7, E2-7, H3-6, I4-5
at level 10-15' obscured cases are E4-5, F3-6, G3-6, H4-5
at level 5-10' obscured cases are F-G4-5
Nothing on the ground
Durgrosh Blacksun
No problem. :-)
Durgrosh looks at the mist and laughs loudly. So are you planning on actually doing any fighting now or are you just going to run and hide for the whole battle?

round 7
Still casting, Liane emerges from the Cloud in D8, elevation 25.
Perception check 16 to locate you.
The rest of the action will depend on your location.
Liane use move action to continue casting concentration check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14,
Perception check to locate Durgosh when coming out of the cloud. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Pearl start of move action to D8
Llaelian's gladiator 1
Thanks, only
round 7 - follow up
Locating you, Liane veers her mount towards you through D8, E9 and cast her spell.
The light of the arena dims for a second and the flapping noise of the roc is multiplied. Suddenly, the air around Durgrosh blackens and an enormous number of bats materialize around him, bitting all the exposed flesh.
"Mice have sharp teeth and some have wings.", replies the halfling to the Orc taunting. Then the mounted halfling moves again into the fog, disappearing in F8
Edit: correction fly check for Pearl to turn 90° while flying, movement D8 E9 F8 fly DC15: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Stealth for Pearl 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13, +20 for being invisible in the cloud.
Damage 2, +1 bleed damage every following round, Fortitude save DC 11 or be nauseated for 1 round. For now, the swarm shares your squares.
Durgrosh Blacksun
Fortitude save vs nauseated 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Attack swarm 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Move into Fog cloud to CD3-4 and attempt to pin point square of Pearl1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Fort save = 24
Move into fog cloud
FYI total concealment is not the same thing as invisibility. You don't get the +20 to stealth from total concealment that you do with invisibility. That is a specific benefit of the invisibility spell.
Relevant rule from SRD:
Total Concealment
If you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight, he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can't attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment).
You can't execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies.
Perception = 20
Durgrosh bellows and then you hear his heavy footfalls get closer.
Llaelian's gladiator 1
Round 8
Liane and Pearl are in E5, 25' high
Hearing Dugrosh come closer, Liane decides to move away, trying to be stealthy. Once she is out of the cloud, she easily locates Durgrosh, and alters her flight accordingly.
In the mean time, the swarm turns on its closest prey, flying towards Durgrosh and covering him again in bites. swarm damage 2 +1 bleed, you've got an AoO vs the Swarm as it enters your space
Liane stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Pearl stealth: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 5 = 24
concentration DC 12: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
swarm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Llaelian's gladiator 1
Do the bleed effects stack btw? I think they do but I wanted to make sure.
No, they don't. You just lose 1 HP/round once you're bitten. It's clearly stated in the Bat swarm entry.
Round 8
Liane flies back around the Ogre and disappears into the cloud again in H7.
In the mean time, the Bats again focus on Durgos, biting him again.
concentration check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
stealth check Liane: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
stealth check Pearl: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 5 = 6
swarm damage is 3 +1 bleed
Durgrosh Blacksun
Thanks for clarifying on bleed.
Move to Acrobatics to jump 5' vertical DC 201d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Free action drop sword
Grapple attempt on Liane 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
50% Miss chance high hits 1d100 ⇒ 66
Durgrosh manages to hear where the two flying annoyances are and moves to attack. An enormous hand comes into view and attempts to latch onto Liane, pulling you off of Pearl and towards the ground.
Perception = 10
Move to HI4-5
Jump DC 20 = 22
Grapple vs Liane CMD = 25
50% miss chance (high hits as normal) = 66
So if that hits your CMD I believe that pulls you off of your mount and into an adjacent space to me. We might need another ruling on exactly where you end up but it seems to me that you would come down with me (although you wouldn't take any falling damage I don't think) and end in an adjacent space to me with the grappled condition.
Llaelian's gladiator 1
I would say Liane is on the ground close to where you are. That would be H3 or I3
I realized I forgot to tell you you needed to roll a fortitude check DC11 each round you are on the same square with the swarm or be nauseated.
Round 9
Liane howl in dismay as the gigantic hand plugs her from her saddle and she ends up in the clutches of the large Orc.
Lifting her eyes to her mount, she calls it to attack, then she twist in her attacker’s grap, drawing her rapier and trying to skewer him
Emerging from the cloud, Pearl plunges down on the grappling melee, trying to pierce the Ogre with her beak. moving through H3, 20’ to H3, 15’, no AoO because she has concealement in H3
Meanwhile, the swarm continues its relentless pursuit of the Orc and moves on its spot, biting again.
Pearl Fly check to move less than half speed DC10 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Liane attack 19, damage 6
Pearl attack 18, damage 7
Swarm damage 2+1 bleed, fortitude check DC11 or be nauseated for 1 round
Llaelian's gladiator 1
Two things, 1. Are we in concealment where we are? 2. Remember that you need to take damage and bleed damage and save vs. nauseated as well since swarms don't discriminate. I'm traveling for work right now but I will post my actions in a bit.
1. On the ground, we are not in concealement, the fog is a half sphere and not a cylinder. I have checked that and validated that with the arbiter.
As I said before for better figuration,at level 20-25', obscured cases are C4-5, D2-7, E2-7, F-8, G1-8, H2-6, I2-6,J 4-5
at level 15-20' obscured cases are D4-5, E3-6, F2-7, E2-7, H3-6, I4-5
at level 10-15' obscured cases are E4-5, F3-6, G3-6, H4-5
at level 5-10' obscured cases are F-G4-5
Nothing on the ground.
2. As for the swarm, it is only a 10 cubic foot swarm. Even if we are grappling, we are not sharing the same square and from its direction, you are still the closest target And as your size is the same of the swarm, it should stop on you.
Again, it is my understanding of the rules and I've been proven wrong a few times :)
Durgrosh Blacksun
Gotcha. Sounds good and thanks :)
Durgrosh yells in pain again, Why won't you just die! He then opens his massive maw and chomps down as hard as he can on your neck. While doing so he spins around you so that you are between him and the bats.
Grapple check to maintain grapple and do damage with natural attack 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 5 = 32
Damage 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
Fort Save = 25
Grapple check = 32
Damage = 19
Can't see the map right now but he would be moving around you to a position on the other side so that you are between him and the bats. Since I am not moving you, only myself, it does not require a check. FYI, if you don't die here the next shot will probably finish me lol.
Llaelian
Just to be clear about the swarm: they are sharing your space and only your space. As part of a grapple, you can grapple and do one other action: either move, or inflict damage or pin or reposition. So either I'm taking the damage, or you move me into the swarm but not both...
The good news is that next round is the last of the swarm damage :)
Relevant quote:
Once you are grappling an opponent, a successful check allows you to continue grappling the foe, and also allows you to perform one of the following actions (as part of the standard action spent to maintain the grapple).
Move
You can move both yourself and your target up to half your speed. At the end of your movement, you can place your target in any square adjacent to you. If you attempt to place your foe in a hazardous location, such as in a wall of fire or over a pit, the target receives a free attempt to break your grapple with a +4 bonus.
Damage
You can inflict damage to your target equal to your unarmed strike, a natural attack, or an attack made with armor spikes or a light or one-handed weapon. This damage can be either lethal or nonlethal.
Pin
You can give your opponent the pinned condition (see Conditions). Despite pinning your opponent, you still only have the grappled condition, but you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC.
Llaelian's gladiator 1
right but that says "as part of the standard action to maintain the grapple" I still have a move action left. I don't grapple very much so I could be wrong but in which case what happens to my move action?
The problem is that when you are grappling, you cannot move except as part of the grapple. In a grapple, both creature have the grappled condition.
Quote: Grappled condition: A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity....
Thus for your move action, you can draw something or pick-up something...basically anything that does not make you move.
I'm not an expert grappler myself, but the good thing about these fights is that they make us look at the obscure points of the rules in detail. :)
Round 10
Throat half opened by the blow, Liane gathers her last strength to finish of the injured Orc before she dies.
In the mean time, up in the air, Pearl uses both her talons and beak to take out the Dugrosh's eyes.
And the bats, after a last bite, eventually fly away.
Swift action, jugement of punition (+1 damage)
Liane rapier attack: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 2 = 20, damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

NP your first shot drops me so funny enough the swarm attacks you lol. Nice fight! I made a big mistake sundering your bow instead of grappling you at the beginning.
Shooing the swarm away, Liane steps on the orc corpse and repeatedly pierce him through and through. "I'll give you puny mice and tigers..."
Fort save vs nauseated: 16
Coup de grace 1 damage 6 (I know that's pitiful)
Coup de grace 2 damage 14
Coup de grace 3 damage 13

CDG 3 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 = 13
Yep, you would have caught me cold before I could use my cloud/swarm tactics.
I now need to update my equimpent some more to find a way to skewer the jumping barbarians... I've got a few ideas.
Llaelian's gladiator 1
you don't need the cdg lol. I dropped dead on the spot lol. Even had I killed you I still would have died once rage ended lol. Good luck in your upcoming fights. I'm going to go buy a reach weapon now. :-)
Damn, I forgot, Orc ferocity and all...
About the reach weapon, you may also want bow or a balista... Liane has this strange effect on people :)
