So I'm debating what to splash for Heavy Armor Proficiency, I'm leaning towards just vanilla Fighter at lvl 1. So was hoping to poll folks on that here.
Next up was to vivisectionist or not, I want to go master chymist, so I really only gain a few d6, ie 3-4d6 over the build in sneak, but if I stay with bombs I end up with 9d6 ultimately. The utility of having something to throw seems pretty decent to outweigh the sneak attacking.
Race I've decided on Oni Spawn, alternate racial traits, maw or claw, prehensile tail, and fiendish sprinter. lvl 5 stats look like
Str 20
Dex 12
Con 12
Int 14
Wis 14
cha 5
Rise of the rune lord traits and APG traits, so went with monster hunter and family ties.
Feats I'm thinking on are fiendish sightx2 (so I can see in dark) and Armor of the pit +2 natural ac.
For the two discoveries, Feral mutagen for sure (increase the die and add another natural attack) and the second was a bit of a debate but was thinking Spontaneous healing or Explosive bomb.
Opinions, thoughts, and advice please? The goal is a frontliner that can take some hits. I was originally going to make a invulnerable barbarian, but as we have a barbarian (just vanilla) I wanted to do something a bit unique.
-edit-
Also gear advice, about 7k to spend. I know Amulet of mighty fist and plate armor are on my lists of things, but curious on any other suggestions. I do plan on using blistering invective too perhaps so intimidate bonuses work well too if cheap (like those cracked ioun stones)

Could you talk to your GM about maybe letting the sneak attack dice grow in place of your bombs? Sounds like a reasonable replacement for me, and in melee alchemist aren't exactly melee monsters even with sneak attack. Maybe if you dipped into barbarian you could have almost fulltime claws for when you rage and medium armor. I've always thought make a melee alchemist was messy myself.
If you had a high dex I'd suggest mithril breastplate and Armor Expert.
I think the best way to see in the dark is an Ioun torch myself. I'm not familiar with fiendish sight, but 2 feats to see in the dark sounds like a bad deal to me.

I have full time claws due to tiefling claw or maw.
two feats is a bit rough, but it's a sweet ability.
See in Darkness (Su) The creature can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, including that created by deeper darkness.
forget darkvision, I see everything! heh. With the dex of 12, I figure the plate armor isn't a bad option for max ac.

With 12 dex, if you never bother to get any higher dex you'll get the most out of plate. However it has medium armor proficiency as a prereq, and alchemist only have light to begin with. So you'll have to dip to get proficiency without 2 feats. That, or talk with your DM over a rich and delicious desert. I suggest cheesecake myself.
I really wish I had more to say, but any build I've tried to make for a melee alchemist I just can't bring myself to use. Probably just me.

Paladin. Then you can have the DM give you funny looks and wonder what to do about a paladin with split personalities. Does he fall? is his other personality actually a fighter?
You could look at Armored Hulk for a barbarian option. Beyond those two I think its only Fighter and paladin who get heavy armor. With full BAB and martial niceness anyway. Mendevian Priest would be a wierd option.

You lose a BAB, but for any martial getting Unarmed Fighter 1/MoMS is amazingly fun. You don't have much BAB to begin with, and if you don't use fractional a level in monk might hurt, but styles with natural attacks or unarmed fighting goes a long way. I'm a big fan of abilities that let you tell your GM no or, in the polite way of putting it, save your life.

Dragonchess Player |

Two levels of ranger can give you Rending Claws as a combat style feat (Natural Weapons) and medium armor, as well as some extra skill points and Favored Enemy or Ranger's Focus (guide archetype). Three levels of urban ranger gives Trapfinding, if you want to be the one to deal with locks and traps.

It's been a interesting thing to think about, I think though that if you don't go master chymist, a good option is actually the monk for two levels and ignore the feral mutagen.
it's strange for sure to think about all the possibilities. there's about 6 different ways to go about alchemist in my head.

I'm looking at a similar character. The two dips for mine were cavalier (gendarme, for heavy armor and power attack feat), and at 5th level MoMS taking tiger style/tiger pounce.
My thinking was that tiger pounce would help with staying in full attack range, as well as helping offset the power attack penalty since I'm slightly behind 3/4 BAB curve with the monk dip.
Later feats will pick up feral combat training (claws) and the dragon/ferocity style feats to keep the damage up at higher levels (shades of AMY, but not looking to come out of the gate that fast).
I agree two feats is awfully steep for darkvision. Get heightened continual flame cast on an ioun torch for those deeper darkness situations.
