Ideally when a wish is corrupted it should be corrupted by making the effect literal rather than as intended, and it actually leaves you worse off than before.
It sounds like the character is making a deal with a major devil, in which case I like the idea of one of that devil's minions appearing in plain sight and giving the report verbally. Afterward the devil may hang around and do as he wills, his report given. The briefing may not traumatize anyone but the briefing is now finished, so the devil may end up being a problem. You may also need to learn infernal to understand the guy.
As has been noted the wish doesn't state the position of the ships or their condition. This information will not be given. As has also been mentioned, not all vessels are ships.
The point about duration of the wish is valid too.
But here's the kicker...
You find yourself teleported to the middle of a trackless desert, where a large devil awaits you. The devil tells you there are no ships within 100 miles. Then he leaves you there. Without the ability to travel magically you are stuck there without food or water. If you manage to survive you find yourself teleported there again the next day... :)
edit: If you manage to find your way back to your ship, you find that the crew no longer remembers you, and someone else has taken your place. They were not traumatized by the loss of their captain because they can't remember him.

The briefing arrives via a seagull with a message scroll. The briefing is written in explosive runes.
An Epic Kraken swallows your ship whole. You notice the briefing is written on the inside of the stomach.
a Rain cloud drips acid onto the deck of your ship, writing the briefing out as it burns through the decks.
The Briefing arrives, written in cursive using marvelous pigments on your sails. The writing forms the shape of a giant upside down chalice filled with 1000 gallons of alchemist fire.

My question to you is how would you corrupt or screw up with this wish:
“ I wish to receive a daily briefing of all ships within a 100 mile radius of me. This briefing will consists of Base course, current course, destination, speed, tonnage, name, affiliation, master, and cargo if any. This briefing can be in writing or verbal but no crew member may be traumatized by the manner of said briefing”
The briefing awakens the PC and CREW every morning it appears as a 1000 flashing of images as soon as they open their eyes it last 1 round the PC and crew must make a Wisdom check DC 40 to sort out any details.
Every month the DC increases by 1 as the images all seam to blur together.Though not traumatized the Crew is aggravated with the ship and its captain.
