I can't imagine that this hasn't been asked before but I didn't find anything.
I'm playing a Synthesist in Kingmaker, I'm keeping my awesomeness in line with other party members, and I've got the Bonus Strength a couple of times and when the excrement hits the fan I've cast Evolution Surge a couple times to become large. Now the Increased abilities specifically say that the Str and Con cost double if I have the Large evolution...

When I gain the Large evolution this technically pushes my Evolution Poionts over the limit. Is this a problem or not?

Huh, that's an interesting one. I wouldn't think that it would retroactively change the cost of the ability boost mutations, I think it's meant to cost extra AFTER you make your eidolon Large-size. The only weird thing about that is if you waited until, say, 19th level to pick the Large evolution, you could have theoretically raised the Strength of the eidolon using more ability boost mutations before that, and get a higher overall Strength score for less evolution point cost. In other words:

Possibility one:
You take Ability Increase (Strength) at each level when you can do so, which is level 1, level 7, level 13, level 19. Then, at level 19, you also choose the Large evolution. Total Strength boost is +12, you've only used 12 evolution points.

Possibility two:
You take Ability Increase (Strength) at each level when you can do so, until you hit level 13, at which point you choose the Large evolution. You pay 2 points for each increase up until then, so that's 6 evolution points for the Strength increases (1st, 7th, 13th) and 4 EP for the Large evolution. You hit level 19 and want to increase Strength more, so you pay 4 EP. Total Strength boose is still +12, but you've used 14 evolution points to make it so.

Of course, this really only affects level 19+, so maybe it's just not a big deal.


You completely reassign evo points each level up, so taking a bunch of Str boosters early on and then Large at a higher level won't let you cheat the system.

OP, I figure you would be fine using Large via the spell, though it's definitely an odd situation. When you take a hit to int, you don't lose access to skill points you've already applied. Should be the same deal for this.
