I played my first PFS scenario today (yay!), but apparently I registered with the society quite a while ago.
So now I have an old PFS number which has never seen an adventure,
and a new PFS number for the adventure I just played.
What do I do? Just forgo the adventure I played today, and make sure I have the right number with me the next time? Or is there a way I can ditch the old number and just use the new one?

You can contact your Event Organizer and notify them that you already had a PFS number, and they can change the report, or you could try contacting Michael Brock the head of the PFS campaign.

Sanjiv, if your first PFS number has never seen a character registered or a session to it, I would determine which number you want to use going forward. Once you have made that determination, your event organizer can take the appropriate actions (have the unwanted number deleted and/or change the reporting).
I forgot to ask if you have registered the new number and know the old number, if you have not registered the new number and know the old one, contact the organizer and request the number change in the reporting after explaining the situation. If the new number has not been activated/registered, return the number to the organizer.
I hope this helps.
