Obscuring Mist Stops Casting?

Rules Questions

If you cast obscuring mist does that stop casters from casting non-AoE on you spells unless they get within 5 feet of you since they can't see you?

Yes, it blocks line of sight outside of a very limited distance. There are a handful of ways to see through clouds, but usually it is pretty effective for a melee-only character to drop fog or mist around themselves. 'course, you can't see either most of the time, which means you can't do things like charge or run, since you can't see where you're going.

well it stops spells with a Target: line from being cast at you from more that 5 feet away... it doesn't stop AoE spells as you mentioned, nor does it stop Effect: spells, such as acid arrow or a ray spell... although the caster must guess what square you are in and suffers a 50% miss chance even if he guesses correctly.

Smart martials come prepared for that.

Scarab Sages

Smart casters are wearing a Goz Mask so they can cast without being targeted. After all, they already have access to fog spells.
