Vanish + Extend

Let's say I'm a 5th level wizard.

If I cast Vanish, modified by the Extend Spell metamagic feat, does the spell remain active

1) during 5 rounds (maximum duration explicitly mentioned in the spell's description)
or
2) during 10 rounds (since the spell is modified by the Extend Spell feat) ?

The wording of the extend spell feat is

Quote:

An extended spell lasts [b]twice as long as normal[/b]. A spell with a duration of concentration, instantaneous, or permanent is not affected by this feat

This should apply to the duration limit too since that would be normal in context of this spell. Unless an official source overrides this, that appears to be RAW.

Yes, an extended vanish spell will last a number of rounds equal to twice your caster level (maximum 10 rounds), and is dismissable as normal.

yes any fixed duration or capped by caster level duration spells are still doubled by extend spell. i am a big fan of extended infernal healing (with magical lineage for it) for 20 hp of healing from a 1st level spell.

For a 2nd-level spell slot, I'd rather prepare Invisibility, for a duration of 50 rounds...

well if youre a spontaneous caster and already have the extend feat (because it is generally useful) you can save yourself a 2nd level spell choice by just casting an extended vanish. especially if you just cast it in combat and are going to break it in the same combat.
