Those Cheap Magic Items....

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I remember reading about these cheap little magic items in some book, can't find them for the life of me now. They're maybe less than 100 gp, extra spell components that boost your spells. Each one had a different school...I dunno. Anyone know what I'm looking for?

I know on spell components, there are some alchemical items you can use as focuses or as materials for certain spells. Look at Adventurer's Armory.

Ah, I do know about those. But these were more universal. Like, one was for summoning creatures, and all your creatures were....whatever. One may have extended all illusion spells, I don't remember. I'm pretty sure it wasn't 3.5 either, though I know 3.5 had a plethora of those little things. I thought they were called fetishes, but I googled it, nothing came up. Oi.

If Paizo printed it, it should be in Ultimate Equipment.

Is it possible you're thinking of Metamagic components from Unearthed Arcana?

I'll recheck Ultimate Equipment. Pretty sure it wasn't Unearthed Arcana. But thanks, anyway.

Are you thinking of the 3.5 Varisian idol (printed in the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide)?

"Varisian Idol: Scavenged from rare uneroded Varisian monuments, these depictions of of forgotten spirits can be used to augment summoning magic. If used as an additional material component for any summon monster of summon nature's ally spell, the summoned creature has an additional +2 hit points per Hit Die." Cost 50 gp.

They are reprinted in Varisia Birthplace of Legends.

Available are:

Avaria: When used to cast bear’s endurance, bull’s strength, cat’s
grace, eagle’s splendor, fox’s cunning, or owl’s wisdom, the spell
grants a +5 enhancement bonus to the affected ability score.
Avidais: When used to cast a spell that allows you to make
a dispel check (such as dispel magic or mage’s disjunction),
you gain a +2 bonus on that check.
Carnasia: When used to cast any spell of the charm
subschool, a threatened target does not gain the usual +5
bonus on its saving throw to resist the effect.
Idolis: When used to cast summon monster or summon nature’s
ally, the summoned creature’s maximum hit points increase
by +2 for every Hit Die it possesses.
Ragario: When used to cast a spell that deals energy
damage, you gain a +2 bonus on caster level checks made
to overcome spell resistance.
Vangloris: When used to cast a spell of the glamer
subschool with a duration measured in minutes or less
(such as displacement or invisibility), the effects of that spell
persist for 1 round longer than normal.
Voratalo: When used to cast a spell of the necromancy
school that deals hit point damage, you also deal a number
of points of bleed damage equal to the spell level. This
bleed effect lasts for 5 rounds.

Price 75gp

I believe those are exactly what I'm looking for. Is that 3.5, or PF?
