Suggestion and sleep

Rules Questions

Hi everyone

An issue came up from a previous game where a PC said they were going to use Suggestion to suggest that an enemy goes to sleep (in the middle of combat)

Is this possible? Doesn't it render Deep Slumber pointless (as DS has a hd limit)

If it is allowed in general I can only assume that it would be considered unreasonable, or even obviously harmful in a combat situation

Could anyone clarify

You could suggest it.. Then the dude would lie down and yawn..

But..
(1) If the suggested activity can be completed in a shorter time, the spell ends when the subject finishes what it was asked to do.

(2) Asking the creature to do some obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell.

Two problems:

1. Suggestion does not override natural body responses. It can be used to make someone go to bed and try to fall asleep but it won't be instantaneous like sleep spell and any sort of activity around the subject will easily rouse the subject before he'll be actually capable of falling asleep.

2. "Asking the creature to do some obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell." - Trying to get to sleep in the middle of combat would be obviously harmful to oneself and thus is not valid suggestion.

EDIT: Ninja'ed? But I wasn't even half asleep! I am sleepy due to gloomy weather, however.

This is in line with how I thought it worked.

Thanks for quick replies

you could suggest that they find a corner , stay there, and close their eyes for an hour...

Or that they go home and lay in bed until the following morning...

::nods::

having them in the corner with their eyes closed is just nicer, as you can sneak up and coup de gras them after combat , if you're mean and sneaky.
