monkeywrench: I have a worg in my game that is a white haired witch. He attacks from invisible, hits with hair and bite, and then begins grappling. Same deal; if he's still alive by round 3 would he have to find a way to physically tie up his grappled prey with rope while they're pinned in order to CdG?

Ok...lets make this easy to understand and show some examples...
Bound by rope can be broken out from using escape artist or CMB.
Pinned can be broken by escape artist and CMB.
Bound creatures can only take mental actions or attempt to escape.
Pinned creatures can only take mental actions or attempt to escape.
Bound creatures dex is NOT 0 for purpose of escape artist checks.
PInned creatures dex is NOT 0 for making escape artist checks.
Bound creatures dex is considered 0 for AC against creatures attacking them.
Pinned creatures... Its reasonable to conclude that their dex is considered 0 for AC against outside attackers.
The differences are that a ropes grip will never slip or weaken or tire whereas a grapplers grip might. The grappler also can adapt position to hold his target where a rope can therefor the pinned target has reduced dex making maintain checks easier and escape artist checks harder.
Conclusion: when the target hasnt escaped the pin they are helpless, but not to their grappler.

Huh... I thought there was a PFS scenario where a creature coup de gra's after pinning. No idea what the creature was and the name alludes me, maybe it was a special quality I don't know about?

Scenario in question:
Happened in Severing Ties, theres a golem near the end.

A dire tiger grabs your PC -- dimension door, anklet of translocation, freedom of movement -- *YAWN*

Don't forget that you have to make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + grappler's CMB + Spell Level and if the creature is a decent grappler, that is tough!

Now the anklet would be fine but casting a spell in a grapple has been a difficult thing in my experience.

For example, if a Dire Tiger grappled a 7th level wizard who has Dimension Door memorized, has a 20 Intelligence, Combat Casting, and a +2 Trait Bonus for Concentration.

The wizard has a +18 after ALL of that and needs to get a DC 37, so he needs to roll a 19. If he did not have the feat or trait, forget about it!

So no "yawn" in my book!

I know this is an old thread - I was trying to find out if rake can be used as part of a CdG on an unconscious player.

Anyway, the creature you are thinking of is called an

Spoiler:
Ebon Acolytus from Pathfinder Adventure Path #30, page 82. It has 2 special attacks: Prostration and Sacrifice.

The prostration allows it to put in in a prostrate position if it starts the round grappling you, and it makes 2 successful grapple checks - 1 to maintain the grapple, and 1 to actually prostrate you.

The sacrifice is then used on round 3 as a full round action of CdG. Additionally if you die from this, you are sent to the plane of whatever diety the Ebon Acolytus belongs too.
