Any idea how badge registration will work for those of us running enough games to get our badge for free?
In the past we had to pay for a badge and games. Than when we check in, we get a refund. It's because we are going through Bob to register on what we are GMing. He will give the list to them. Other wise everyone would have to submit events on there own, which wouldn't work.

A couple of questions.
For the Thorn Keep, is it first come, like the other events or is it going to be a continuation?
Second, are we going to be able to see who else is in the slot with us? I am trying to coordinate, along with Nathan King, a cohort from St. Louis.
1) no idea
2) working on it
This be my first and Bob is lead. I be but apprentice to the master.

I am looking to attend Winter War and a bit confused on registration. As in how do we do it.
I do know I want to get in on PFS: Thornkeep and while I see it up on Warhorn we can't sign up there.
On the Winter War Preresistration Form, Thronekeep is not listed as part of the events.
Is Warhorn going to be opened up for people to sign up on?
Can we use the Warhorn info to fill out the Preregistration form?

Pre-Registration will be next month sometime. You will have to go on the WinterWar site and register with them. Warhorn has been used in the past to allow people to list what they are playing, but there was always confusion. Time after time it was told to people that they HAD to go through WinterWar or it didnt count. This year we are working out a better way. Hopefully we can get regular updates and than post them on warhorn.

As the table judge for the Thornkeep levels, I think it would be fun to play your character straight through Friday through Sunday, but I certainly don't expect that level of commitment. If you can only play one level, that's cool, too.
I would mention, though, that people who play the Accursed Halls before the deeper levels have some sort of modest advantage. I would recommend playing the Accursed Halls as your PC's first foray into the Thornkeep dungeons.

The best method, and the one that they recommended to me last year is to go ahead and register as soon as it is open. Pay for your badge so you can register to play. I will submit the GM list to the convention at a future date and you can get reimbursed for your badge on site.

All events are first come first serve, just like GenCon. Each of the three Thornkeep offerings are two-slot events and you will be registered to play in both parts. However, registration for one Thornkeep table will not effect the others. You will have to register for each one separately.
Historically, Winter War has not posted the status of signups so you will not be able to see how many seats are available or who has signed up.
If something sells out quickly and other events cancel due to lack of participation, I might be able to re-task a GM or two to add duplicate tables. However, that is a big "if" and depends on a lot between now and then.

Jeff is correct...There a few errors in the events as they are listed on the Winter War website. I am waiting for the convention staff to make the corrections. That should happen before the registration goes live, probably sometime next week. The schedule as it appears on our Warhorn site is accurate and can be used for reference.
Warhorn will not be opened up for player registrations. In the past, too many players got confused and failed to actually sign up with the convention. Warhorn is only being used to track GM assignments.

That...is a terrible way to handle things, methinks.
So what happens to people who spend money on tickets for specific events that dont have a seat at the table? For example, if 8 people sign up to play at one table because they dont know how many have signed up already, and we cant get a second GM to help cover that many players, then the last one or two players are out of luck? Or can they use the event ticket on another table that does have slots?

On the Winter War web site there is a mail in Preregistration form. On that form is different time slots to be filled in.
Can this form be used to sign up for the games now?
Or is there going to be something else used for sign ups?
The Winter War web site seems to read that you need to fill in the Preregistration form and mail (US postal mail) it in while some of the posts I've read in different forms seem to say Winter War will have something up later for sign ups. Can this get clarified on what is being used.

Susan, whom handles sign ups, is really good at organizing events. In the past if more than 6 sign up than she will email the extra seats and let them know. Sign up is best done by online registration, which will open up soon. If you mail it in than it will probably fill up from online before she gets it.

Sign up is not open yet, neither by online or mail. Have to keep checking the site for when it opens or join yahoo group or facebook page.

Sorry, I am organizing PFS, not in charge of how the convention runs their business. We are operating within their parameters.
While the site does not display the status of remaining seats, it does have each event limited to the number of seats as designated by the submitter. So, PFS events will have six seats available. As far as I know, when an event sells out, it will no longer be available for additional players to register. That should eliminate any overflow issues.
We are working with the convention staff to try and get regular updates to he status of registrations as they fill up so we can keep players advised as to what is still available. As I stated before, if some events sell out quickly, while others show signs of no participation, we will attempt to adjust the schedule by adding additional tables of the "hot" events. This, of course, is dependent on a lot of factors including the responsiveness of the convention staff and willingness of GM's to change their scenario assignments.
They are considering opening online player registrations on December 1st, but that is not a confirmed date/time. Please remain patient and keep an eye on the Winter War website or their facebook page for updates.

Thanks for the info guys, and no need for apologies. ;)
That makes me feel a little better about the sign up process, if just a little. :P

Is there a way for us judges to find out how many folks are signed up for our game, and what sub-tier we will most likely be running? This helps me in prepping, and lets me make some adjustments in my schedule if a game doesn't have any players.
We are working on getting updates. It is a balance in getting them without over bothering Susan. The problem, as I see it, is that people changing there slots cause more work for Susan. Hopefully it wont be so bad this year and we can get daily updates.
|
We might be able to get occasional registration updates, but since their system is not designed to record character info, I wouldn't hold my breath on knowing the sub-tier prior to the event.
I am taking notes on the progress of the process and will be discussing these things with the convention ownership. Hopefully, we can come up with a more user-friendly system for future conventions that brings visibility to many of the issues *you* have brought up.

I presume we only sign up for that which we want to play, not for the games we are set to GM, yes?
correct. you sign up with Bob for what you want to GM. You still need to purchase a badge for the days you will attend. Than when you check in they will give you a refund. I know it could be better and hopefully will be in the future. This is there 40th year, but PFS's 4th with them. The first 2 years we were in a conference room with 1 table per slot. I always use the cash back to eat at the little buffet he hotel sets up for the Con. Pretty good food for the price.

Dude, all the ones I wanted to play sold out....
I am sorry. Thornkeep sold/is selling very quickly as are a few other scenarios/events. I will be getting periodic updates from the convention and based on popularity and/or lack of sign-ups, there is a remote possibility we might add/replace events. You'll have to stay tuned for more info.

Good News!!!
Due to the response for the Thornkeep events, we have added an additional table of each offering. If you act fast, you still have a chance to play one of those.
Bah! Now you tell me. My cousin and I just signed up last night and got our schedules already. Ah well, maybe I'll get to play them some other time. See you in January.

|
I'm sure that Susan could adjust your schedule if you asked. Feel free to send her an email
Oh, that's OK. I had originally thought about jumping into the Thornkeep table, but I may actually be running it before then anyways.
Looks like a fun weekend. Signed up to actually play the whole trip ;)

What did you sign up to play?
Well, let's see...
It starts with Green Market and then to your table of Severing Ties on Friday...unfortunately my Szcarni monk is already 6th level, as he'd be a lot of fun in that one I think.
Saturday, I got the Golden Serpent in the morning, and then I get to bug Bob the rest of the day with back to back scenarios of Shades of Ice ;).
Sunday, is an icy stroll for the Icebound Outpost, and then your wife's running of Blackros Matrimony to finish off the weekend.
I'm looking forward to getting in a lot of playing time for a change. I haven't just played at a con in a year and a half, and I get to drag my cousin along this time, so it's not total strangers in the group too =p.

Any takers for Eyes of the Ten yet?
I am, if I can get Martel there in time. So you have a Bard, a Rogue, and a Paladin. I am trying to recruit a Cleric, an Alchemist and a Summoner. I think that will be an even enough party.
You will have no shenanigans or cheese weasels for that matter.

okay folks, only five more slots are in need of GM's. First Steps I-III, The Sanos Abduction, and Master of the Fallen Fortress. Are there any takers out there in the wide world of gaming? See our Warhorn site for the remaining GM slots and send me an email pfs.illinois@gmail.com if you're interested. Remember, volunteer to GM two slots and get your convention badge for free.
