So the guys who made all the awesome Infinity Engine games are making a new one through Kickstarer. They have my money. Do they have yours?

Werthead |

Many previous Kickstarter projects have been promising - Double Fine's, WASTELAND 2 and PLANETARY ANNIHILATION most notably - but this is by far the most exciting. The creator of FALLOUT and ARCANUM who also worked on VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE - BLOODLINES; the guy behind NEW VEGAS (which effortlessly out-classed Bethesda's FALLOUT 3 and got dumped on for its troubles); and the writer of FALLOUT 2, PLANESCAPE: TORMENT and KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II, backed-up by the team who co-created the Infinity Engine and did supporting work on BALDUR'S GATE 1 and 2?
I wouldn't be surprised to see this making 300% or more of its original goal. If this rate does not slacken off, they'll be at 50% of their goal in less than an hour.

Shifty - from the Kickstarter:
We’ve also designed the game to have a flexible budget and scope, so if we reach our target budget goal, we have a list great stuff we can add into the mix through stretch goals. And, additional money we raise will go straight into the game to add new levels, companions, NPCs, features, and even entirely new parts of the world which will add hours and hours to the adventure.

Ask and ye shall receive Shifty:
1.1 million, Base Goal – Achieved!
Base game includes three races, five classes, and five companions. We have ideas for these, but we want to hear your opinions on what you'd like to see. Stay tuned to Kickstarter, our website, and our forums to join in on the conversation.
1.4 million, New Playable Race, Class, and Companion!
Expands your options for character creation and adds a companion of the new class.
1.6 million, a Mac Version of Project Eternity and The Story Grows!
We've listened and we’ll make a Mac version of the game at this tier. We're also going to add a new major storyline along with new quests, locations, NPCs, and unique loot (special histories everyone?).
1.8 million, New Playable Race, Class, and Companion!
The options grow for your main character and the roster of your motley crew expands with the addition of a new companion from the selected class.
2.0 million, Player House!
Get your own house in the game that you can customize, store equipment in, and where your companions hang out, or, as the elves say, "chillax".
2.2 million, a new Region, a new Faction and another new Companion! And, dare we say it... ? LINUX!
Great news, everyone! For the Tarball Knights of Gzippia out there, we'll be adding Linux support!
Also, the world of Project Eternity grows in a major way with the inclusion of a whole new faction and the territory it holds. This adds new NPCs, quests, magic items, and hours of gameplay. And yes, you got it, another companion.
2.4 million and beyond! Coming soon!
Oh and pet peeve - it's Baldur's Gate - not Baulder's

Oh and pet peeve - it's Baldur's Gate - not Baulder's
I was too excited to share to spell check.
Kicktraq daily tracking
Yesterday they pulled in just shy of 200K. Today is already up to 70K. If you project their current total at 150K/day, they break 5 million, so my guess is that with last minute pledges it will hit arround 6M.

Many of the NV bugs are from being forced to use Bethesday's engine.
Also, at near max graphic settings, I can't recal a crash in NV on my PC. The memory leak in Torment was worse.

So single player I'm guessing...*sigh*
I was hoping for a baulders gate dark alliance/ champions of Norrath: Realms of everquest style game.
When they said Baldur's Gate-like they meant the original PC RPG, not Dark Alliance. (Mind, Dark Alliance is a fine series of games in their own right, but they were action style console games and nothing like the isometric PC RPG they are going for here.)

Installed any recent patches? Mind, I've only played on PC myself, but I can't imagine that kind of thing on X-Box persists--and AFAIK the people I know who played it on X-Box did not have that same problem.
Alternately, Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition for PC is cheap (and you could wait for it to go on sale on Steam) and I think is fairly forgiving on system reqs, so you might try that instead. It really is a phenomenal game. Having played part of 1, all of Fallout 2, and Fallout 3, my personal opinion is that New Vegas is the best of all of them, hands down.
ETA: As to the Kickstarter itself, I really want to be excited. I love Obsidian and know they will write a great game. But I'm still waiting for Wasteland 2, and I've pretty much spent what I can spend on Kickstarters for now. The timing is just really bad for me personally. Like I'm going, gee should I donate to the Kickstarter or should I pay for my car insurance? The car insurance is going to win.
And I'm also kind of burned out on fantasy RPGs. I feel like between IWD and BG and BGDA and NWN2 and Torment I've gotten an ample sampling of what Obsidian can do with fantasy. Having finished playing Alpha Protocol not long ago, I'd much rather see then do another modern day RPG, which is much more unexplored territory. AP was flawed but it also had a many great features, and there's so much they could do that no one's done before--and kickstarting a project like that would make more sense as again, it's more uncharted territory than yet another fantasy game.
At the same time, I know it will be incredible. Maybe I'll reconsider when I'm less PMSy and read more about what they've got planned.

I think Obsidian are being smart here. Traditional fantasy is somewhat played-out, but is also very popular (as a quick look at the sales of DRAGON AGE and THE ELDER SCROLLS shows, not to mention WARCRAFT etc). By using a traditional fantasy paradigm and then playing around with it, Obsidian can interest people from the off and then impress them with what they can do. Then further down the road they could try something else (like the TORMENT 'spiritual sequel' Avellone was musing on a while ago).

Simple solution to your dilemma: sell your car. No more insurance to worry about and some extra cash in your pocket to spend on more Kickstarter goodness! Sounds like a win-win to me! (seriously, though, don't sell your car)

With a title like "Project Eternity" I have to wonder if it is the "spiritual sequel." :)
I get what you're saying, but if you're gonna get something Kickstarted, I'd rather see something fun and experimental than "just because it's a good marketing decision." That's just coming from a personal philosophical point of view though. And I imagine they aren't just doing fantasy because it will sell, it's because they do have a story to tell.

This Kickstarter has gone nuts. They are gonna break some records I think. There are only 11 hours left, so if anyone wants to pledge but hasn't yet...head on over to
and do it!
Eh, yesterday was only their 3rd highest day, and today will probably not make number 2 either.
Its the highest video game, beating out Double Fine's 3.3M, and the second highest in the games category, beating Reaper Bones's 3.4, but its no where near Ouya's 8.6M.
Also, if you are interested in this, check out this one too.

Werthead |

You can play:
1) With one player-generated character and a party of pre-generated NPCs, with in-party banter, dialogue and relationships (as with BALDUR'S GATE).
2) With a complete party of up to six (IIRC) player-generated characters, whose skills and classes you can choose yourself (as with ICEWIND DALE).
3) Or with one player-generated character and completely solo the game (apparently this is very hard).
I think you can also mix and match (i.e. create three player-generated characters and combine with NPCs) to a certain degree as well.

Chris Avellone on PROJECT ETERNITY and many other games he's worked on.
There's also quite a bit of stuff on Obsidian, Black Isle and games like NEW VEGAS, PLANESCAPE: TORMENT and FALLOUT.

Speaking of Chris Avellone, did he give up on his Arcanum project? Last video I've seen from him he got mauled by wolves. Over and over and over and over again.
(Okay, so that describes all the sessions I've seen. :p)
Latest Eternity update noted he will get back to the Arcanum playthrough after he's finished up a recent tour of cons/interviews.
If you haven't seen the episode yet where he finally gets to town, then there is at least that one waiting for you. I believe where he is right now, he is no longer being mauled by wolves, but is still naked because his dress is still broken.

:D
The last one I saw is the one where he visit the (*stage whisper*) ghost. I think it was #6? Maybe. Is there one after that?

There is one where he gets to town and talks to a shopkeeper. That is the last one. I think based on what you've said, you've actually missed several. Look them up on Obsidian's Youtube channel and see for yourself.
