I just started running and organizing PFS locally and I wanted to know about Special adventures. I have a lot of experience with Living Greyhawk and Living Forgotten Realms and I know how their Interactives and Battle Interactive work. So here are some questions.
1) How do PFS Specials differ from LG Interactives and LFR Battle Interactives (Adventuring Company adventures)?
2) How often are Specials released?
3) Under what conditions can they be run?
4) How do you get ahold of them to run?
5) How are the different from regular adventures?

Well, I guess the most common use of 'special' here is for convention specials. I believe they're released one per year, at Gen-Con, but are also played at other conventions during the year. The PFS officers, Venture Captains and Lieutenants should be able to tell you more about them. I'm sure they're available if you're organizing a convention with a large number of tables.
Otherwise I don't have experience with Living Greyhawk or FR, so I can't answer those. Your post looked lonely though.
I'd advise finding your regional VC.

1) I'm not sure. Some of my friends who experienced specials in the 90s said the previous interactives were more epic and crazy.
2) One special is released per year. Some specials are exclusive to certain cons.
3) For the first year, they're exclusive to conventions and/or maybe VC/VLs. After that anyone can purchase and run them.
4) See above.
5) Honestly, they're about the same as a regular scenario, sometimes worse. They're written so that it's possible to tell the same story across a number of tables. Being an interactive is what makes them fun though. I skipped this years, I think it was different.

1) Prebuilt, more limited in number, and fully built. LG BIs tended to be built as they were being played, from what I saw. LFR's ADCP come closer.
2) Typically, a present, there is one big Special and one Exclusive released per year.
The Special is designed for multiple table participation in a convention-style atmosphere, and has a minimum number of concurrent tables required.
2-Special - Year of the Shadow Lodge has a minimum table number of 3.
3-Special - Blood Under Absolom has a minimum table number of 5.
4-Special - Race for the Rune-Carved Key - no information.
The Exclusive is a more-or-less standard scenario with a limited initial release, only being able to be run by 4 Star & 5 Star GMs and Venture Officers for the first year it is available.
2-Exclusive was The Midnight Mauler, which is now available for general purchase and running.
3-Exclusive is The Cyphermage Dilemma, which will be released at the end of February for general purchase and running.
4-Exclusive has not, so far as I can see, been announced yet, but you can expect that it will be released to the qualified individuals in late February or early March, since they have been trying to always have an Exclusive available for the campaign.
3) I mentioned in answer 2 the requirements to run both Specials and Exclusives.
4) Specials are sold through the website, but can only be run for credit if you can get enough tables simultaneously run.
Exclusives are only available to the GMs who can run them for the first year, but then they are released for normal sales, like any other scenario, through the Paizo web site. Check out the Product link on the PFS landing page, from the Pathfinder Society link on the left near the top.
5) Specials tend to be a bit harder, and have multiple table success requirements. X tables have to succeed at Y action to end the scenario.
Exclusives, but I have only had the chance to play one of them (Midnight Mauler), seem to be about the same as regular scenarios. Midnight Mauler was the first scenario, IIRC, which had a chase scene in it.
