Real Quick - Kingdom rules: Player access

Kingmaker

Sitting in my college library, I am printing off the PDF of RRR, which contains the kingdom building rules. I don't know, though - are players supposed to have access to this? I want to print a second copy of the chapter if so, but I don't know. If they aren't, what sort of info do I give them on it?

That is something for each GM to decide. I personally gave my players full access, but it led to the very number oriented players creating a city that didn't make dynamic sense. It might be an idea to introduce them slowly,

Along the line of tiers of buildings, like houses, farms and granaries etc being available straight away, and then bigger stuff like the casters tower etc once those basics are built.

Ultimately, its the GM's call

I decided to compile basic information on it all and give it to them. I figured they would learn some stuff as things went on, and instead of making it difficult on them to pick it up, having what they needed would help.

I gave them:

A list of the rulers with descriptions, their benefits, and their vacany penalties.

A list of all of the buildings, the cost/requirements associated with each one, and a description of each one, with a slot for their effect to be written down the first time they're built.

A list of all of the types of edicts, including their effects.

A list of the special resource hexes and what they yield.

The improvements they can do per month based on kingdom size.

The cost and time to prepare a city district site, based on which type of terrain.

That's all been put in about 7 pages worth of tables. There'll be more I tell them at the table, of course, but that's the meat of it.

I might not have told them the later stages of how much can be built when they increase in size, but other than that I agree with what you have done, its a nice method

Agreed. Make the rules as transparent as possible without overwhelming them.

Moonwalker, that was actually the only one I wasn't that sure of, but I don't think it'll cause any issues. If they rush kingdom size, then they'll have to deal with a higher Command DC, which could easily result in them being unable to run their kingdom. They'll have to either drop hexes or spend months not building anything, so I am hoping it'll balance itself out.
