Selective metamagic effect.

Rules Questions

We seldom use metamagic in our group, so this came up in our last game.

Sorcerer uses a selective ice storm. Player claims that selected PC's are not affected by the ice patches AND are not affected by the visibility problems associated within the area : i.e. tha monster is blinded but the PC's are not.

Any thoughts?

Looks like you dual-posted this, so I'll dual-answer it.

He could not apply selective spell to Ice Storm, because under the description of the selective spell feat it may only be used on a spell that has a duration of instantaneous. Ice storm is a round per level spell.

Network is quirky this morning. Everything is stalling....

Thanks for the answer. Debate settled!

To clarify: after they issued an erratum for the spell, it now specifies that it can only be used on spells with an instantaneous duration.

Presumably the player was looking at the pre-errata version of the spell.

Good catch, Hogarth. Since the good folks at the PFSRD do such an excellent job keeping up with the errata, it is our go-to source for rules questions. Especially since different players have different editions of the books at the table.
