Ranger / Rogue multiclass viability

Advice

In Treantmonk's guide to Rangers, he suggests that should one want to pull off an effective TWF Ranger, levels of rogue are recommended to make TWF damage relevant.
I also think that a Ranger could get a fair bit out of rogue talents. Rogue would also get a lot out of the Rangers BAB, HP, and other little combat goodies.

IN any case, I was wondering what such a build might look like,(I was assuming a 50-50 split between classes, and TWF, and Imp. TWF?) and how viable it would be.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think I'd split it 50/50. I'd keep Ranger prime with rogue as a dip. Maybe Ranger 15/Rogue 5. That nets you 2 rogue talents, +3d6 sneak attack, and uncanny dodge. Trapfinding is gravy. Good rogue talents include Fast Stealth, and maybe a Combat Feat. The +3d6 damage is around +10 damage per hit when you can sneak attack. This build will result in a BAB of +18, which is still plenty to do your hitting and power attacking with. Alternatively, Ranger 14/Rogue 6 results in the same BAB, but gets you an extra rogue talent but costs you favored enemy 4. Since Rangers get instant enemy I wouldn't recommend it.

In fact, I'm not even sure I can recommend the above build. Dual-wielding rangers can just stealth, instant enemy, and then plow an opponent with a +10 to hit and damage on every attack, while full power attacking...

*pooh ponders*

Is not Urban Ranger exactly what you are looking for?

no, Urban Ranger is not what Im looking for. I don't like the mechanic of "Favored Community", and it is horrible for any adventure where you travel a lot (like many adventurers do).

As for Instant Enemy... Thats only really viable at higher levels, when you actually get 3rd level spell slots. Surviving in an optimized campaign as a TWF Ranger until then is quite difficult.

Dipping one or the other is fine, I would not 50/50 multiclass...anything in PF. Far too penalizing.

And a ranger/rogue build can actually get pretty darn awesome if looking to exploit Horizon Walker's terrain dominance for massive damage. Rogue got a talent in UC that is basically favored terrain, but a) boosts all others by +2 every time you take it and b) is a talent, and thus comes every other level of rogue and can be taken over and over again as a feat.
Do like Ranger 3 / Rogue 3 or something into HW. Pick as your sole favored enemy something that only appears in one type of terrain (according to the statblocks; DM wants to have them pop up randomly other places, shouldn't affect you) and match it to your first dominant terrain. Obtain a wand of Instant Enemy. Against any tough foe not already from one of your dominant terrains, use Instant Enemy. That foe now counts as being your FE for all purposes, which includes native terrain. Enjoy.
