So, say you are playing in a Gladiator campaign and you have the Master Combat Performer feat. Does this mean if you make a successful trip attempt in a performance combat, you would get two performance checks? One for the trip attempt, and another for knocking the opponent prone?

I hate to double post, but I would like some confirmation one way or the other with this question.
As written, I would say that technically yes, you would get two checks since it says:"Combat Maneuvers: Whenever a combatant successfully performs any combat maneuver, she can make a performance combat check as a swift action." and "Knocking Opponent Prone: When a combatant knocks another combatant prone, she can make a performance combat check as a swift action."
So by the rules for Performance Combat, yeah. Considering the investment you need to get to the point where you can do that, I wouldn't really see any reason to rule against it either.

From the PRD:
Swift Action: A swift action consumes a very small amount of time, but represents a larger expenditure of effort and energy than a free action. You can perform only a single swift action per turn.
Only 1 swift action per turn. So, while it may grant two possible swift actions, you can only take 1 per turn.

You may have missed the part where Master Combat Performer allows him to make Combat Performance checks as free actions, which was the crux of his question.

You are correct. See what happens when I do not take the time to read the feats..
