BBT: I don't suppose you dreamed of 'Ol Peeps after your 56 hr marathon? If you caught a glimpse of him and lived to tell the tale, I hear that putting him down on paper, making an image of him, is step 1 of helping rid yourself of him. Step 2 is destroying said image, but for some reason everytime kids finish step 1 the image gets taken away somehow. Sometimes it even makes it onto the internet...

Being awake for long periods is pretty common thing for me. Insomnia and all. I admit I sometimes have auditory hallucinations, but it takes 60+ for visual hallucinations.
Mostly, it is just a queer imagination that sparks up ever so often.

I prefer the term "Collaborative Heavy Lifting." Seriously though, it was everyone who contributed to the thread that made wicked 'Ol Pogolo Peeps the villain he is today.
I had an idea for a scary child killing bugbear and asked for a name. BBT gave us the name and the first rhyme. Dudemeister gave us his Ooptah, which in turn called up the first mirror reference. Then it just snowballed from there.
Man, I wish all the side quests in my campaign had this much impact! That's what's killing me; my players are adventuring archeologists on a mission to explore some old ruins. This whole plotline is nothing more than a side quest for them that they may not even get to!
Still, here's how it ties back in to the main - Pogolo's hall of mirrors is accessible from the ruins. I took an idea off the Angry DM's blog and made a "slaughterhouse" megadungeon.
Despite the grim name all it means is that the place is SO huge that instead of writing up individual rooms you just make a stat block for each "zone". One of the zones I have labeled as the Dark Tunnels and that's where the bugbear would originally have been encountered.
Then I read about the Grimm's Fairy Tale called The Boy Who Wished to be Afraid where a kid can't get scared. I thought; wouldn't that be a fun story to put a twist on? And so the cursed puppeteer and his bugbear nemesis appeared.
I just wanted a creepy name for a diversion in my game; an afterthought. But that's the thing about nightmares isn't it; like any other dream it's in your head and out again like that. The only thing that really stays with you are a few fleeting images half seen through closed eyes. And the fear, always the fear...

Whoah. I've met only one other insomniac in real life and he had the same symptoms. I'm sorry dude. Are there no sleep aids that help? And what does it finally feel like when you DO sleep? Do you only sleep like 3 hours or something?
Not to make light of the condition at all, but severe insomnia could be a reall cool, creepy thing to give a horror villain...

The Soulbound Doll is a good monster to use in this.
Perhaps child-like Victorian dolls made of glass.
For a possible Trap/Difficult Terrain, a spilled cauldron of molten glass.

Hah! I have been told that if I was not such a nice guy, that I would make a great villain. Mostly, it's the laugh, eyes, and hands that get to people. I am around 5'11", but I have bigger hands than my buddy who's 6'9".

The monsters from Mulletmanalive's Fae thread has good things to consider for clever tricks that your players have not seen in monsters before.
