we had to destroy an intelligent item last night and legally we needed to slay 9 good kings then sunder it. in the absence of monarchs we put it in a handy haversack and then punctured it.
is this a legit way to get rid of an evil intelligent item?
also the sword has dimension door as a ability can it dimension door out of a handy haversack?

Dimension door allows it to try and move in any direction, doesn't even need to see. But there'd be an initiative order to see if it could get it off before you managed to stuff it in and have someone puncture the bag.
The puncturing doesn't actually destroy the item, just makes it "lost forever". The term used here is implied in later text regarding portable hole interaction, with a rift to the Astral Plane.
While it's still technically not destroyed, it is not going to be anywhere near you anytime soon. I'm getting the impression that it'd be like dumping the thing "somewhere between here and Alpha Centauri"... the Astral Plane is infinite, and the likelyhood of it being found and directed back towards you during your natural lifetime is extremely unlikely.
..
Unless someone has the inclination, and plane shifting/item finding magic to go after it.
This basically leaves it up to he GM, however the major implication is that it should be never found again. Definitely a legit way to get it out of your hair.
..
When our group ran into an extremely evil artifact, that needed some ridiculous thing to destroy it, we just handed it over to the Pathfinders. To be examined by top men.... top.. men...

Depends... if its an artifact they follow different rules of 'reality'.
DEPENDING on gm fiat, if you lacked 9 good kings etc then you haven't met the magic formula.
Other ways are throwing it into a sphere on Annilation etc.
Again, depends on the DM.
Me, if the storyline is created for this great quest is laid out and the players say "or we can just turf it into this bag of holding and boom!" before handing out high 5s all around, you need to question do they want to play that story or if they are focused on "winning" the game. The old 'one ring-mt doom' trope has been done a lot though.
Again, depending on FIAT the GM can do anything from 'grats, never thought of that' to 'the explosion drags you into a portal/kills you all' etc.
If I really REALLY wanted to play it out as GM I'd likely have something happen that was visually exciting but have the weapon blown through time/space and re-appear later in the game campaign.
