Got an elven illusionist for a Kingmaker game, banned schools are necromancy and divination. I've never played an illusionist before, what kind of advice do you have? Here's how Phethian the Illusionist stands now.:
-We rolled for stats and I started with a 19 Int, got a good Dex and Con, and a 13 Cha, so I think I'm alright there. The Cha should help with Bluff and Disguise checks (which I think work well with the illusionist).
-Took a wand as my bonded object. I know its not ZOMGSUPEROPTIMIZEDDPR but it fits my character and I can always change it later (probably to staff).
-Put most of my skills into the Knowledges and Spellcraft, but I'm definitely gonna put some in Bluff, Disguise, Ride (only a couple), Fly (later on), and I think thats it.
-Took Spell Focus: Illusion for my level 1 feat, plan on Toughness at some point, Craft Wand, Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Staff, and Spell Penetration, but I'm not sure what else to get.
-What Illusion spells are real winners? I've read Treantmonk's guide (loved it) and the Core+ Wizard's guide (loved it too), just wondering if there are any other good uses of them?
-Tactics. I'm not really sure what my role is yet. I've been doing a bit of debuff (mostly with Blinding Ray), battlefield control, and blasting (Magic Missile), but my options at lvl 2 are slim. How do you play an illusionist at higher levels? This is the area I need the most advice in.

I'd focus more on figments and glamers because they are more often no save or save on interaction effects, which, depending on your DM, can require an action of some kind.
I'd avoid the phantasms at later levels because they are mind effecting and all too often targets are immune.
I think the coolest illusionists would be the ones that mix real and illusionary effects so the targets won't know whether the wall of stone is real or not or if the summoned creatures are real or not.
I'm planning an illusionist for next time and am thinking about using lots of conjurations and illusions of same, lots of battlefield control, buffing and miscellany.

Makes sense about the figments and glamers, I was hoping for Phethian to be fairly pacifistic in game (helps others fight, but avoids it himself). My DM has reasonable rules for what "interaction" means, so I think I'm good there.
Definitely gonna use a good amount of real summons and stuff to mix it up (and prevent any subconscious metagaming). Looks like I'm gonna be doing a lot of battlefield control and debuffing! Works great for me!

You'll want a good Bluff score, as often what really makes an illusory ruse work is selling it. If your GM is using traits, get one that gives you Bluff as a class skill. Speaking a ton of useful languages is also key, so make sure to pick up the common ones like goblin, giant, draconic, etc, before you pick up ignan and abyssal.

There's feats in, he magic of the inner sea book that boost the DC of spells if cast under poor lighting conditions. The metsmagic feast can be attached at co changes to the spell if the spell has either the darkness or shadow descriptor.
This will help the shadow conjuration or evocation spells later and if your group can see in the dark or can control the lights its useful.
I don't think the feat for doing damage with illusions from the same book is that great though.
Over all just make sure you and your dim are on the same page as far as when monsters can save vs your illusions.
