Kitsune Fertility Question and possible cross fertility thread....

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Say you have a human and a kitsune who love (Or if you prefer lust) each other. Were they to go all of the way could they produce offspring. If they did would the child be a human or a kitsune? Or possibly have a chance of being either?

I once read about something like that in a novel about folklore in Feudal Japan. I think the kids (or kits) would mostly take after the mother but might have some minor traits(such as eye or hair color) from the other parent.

From a brief mention in Wikipedia:

"Many stories tell of fox-wives bearing children. When such progeny are human, they possess special physical or supernatural qualities that often pass to their own children."

So yes, kitsunes and humans can produce offspring, and those offspring may or may not be human (presumably being kitsune in that case).

A human and a kitsune who have a child will produce one of two things: A human child or a kitsune child. Which one occurs depends on chance as much as anything else.

In most folklore tales from Japan, where there were offspring in a relationship between human and yokai is a human with unnatural beauty and perhaps are more healthy, but tend not to have enhanced or super human abilities of any kind. Of course that is folklore and not necessarily Golarian lore.

Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan: strange discussions published in 1899, one of the tales, Yuki-onna, features a yuki-onna (snow woman - a type of yokai) who has a relationship with the human protagonist while she is in disguise as a human woman. They bear two children. For all intents and purposes they are human children and have no yokai nor yuki-onna traits.

Japanese lore does not include any half-races or mixtures of human and other races. You're either human or your not. Of course this may not be true for Golarian oriental beings...

Thank you. I figured that would be the case. Interesting thought: So long as there are humans all it takes is one kitsune to survive a near genocide for the race to still have a chance.

The folklore. It's all coming back to me. Funny memory of a man who married the spirit of his favorite tree...

So you can't have foxgirls like Ahri?

Thank you, Mister Jacobs. This does fit in nicely with my own idea of Avistani and Garundi-looking (in human form) kitsune in the west whose father was, all unknown to their mothers, a lecherous kitsune.

And am I wrong or wasn't there some great Japanese sorcerer of legend whose mother was a kitsune? I think he was Abe no Seimei, or am I wrong?

The Exchange

That was indeed Abe no Seimei, or at least, he's one of (possibly) multiple.

I'm not familiar with Ahri... but the game already supports thousands of different monsters ranging from little plant men who wear lemons for hats all the way up to behemoths the size of a house that can't be killed by mortal magic.

AKA: there's room for pretty much anything in the game if you want to add it.

Sweet! Now I have the perfect cohort for my Kitsune witch/druid (fox familiar + dire fox animal companion).

I smell a Sorcerer bloodline.

For what it's worth, there are a lot of third-party options for Kitsune if you don't care for Paizo's take on them. The most expansive one I've ever seen is Kitsunemori, a 3.5 supplement that has kitsune as races (and human-kitsune children as races), but also with kitsune-specific feats, prestige classes, magic systems, and so much more.

A quick sidebar: If you do decide to pick up Kitsunemori, please do so from the above link and not through other retail outlets. Most retailers are selling it on behalf of its "publisher," Dog Soul Games, despite them never having paid the original authors for their work. The above link is for the direct sales page of one of the authors.

Context: A nine-tailed fox (technically a kumiho/gumiho as opposed to a kitsune) character from the multiplayer online game League of Legends.

Kitsune can be Tieflings, just like (almost!) anybody else in PF2.

Just in time for Book of the Dead.

Furthermore, from what I know of the lore the child may be a half-fiend with taints according to the species of fiend siring it, or a tiefling. As time moves on, half-fiends seem to be drifting into obscurity to allow telling characters to be direct descendants of fiends.

Anyway, this parentage combination can go for any humanoid ancestry (or any living creature for half-fiends; the genes arent super picky I suppose) and on the otherside a kitsune can couple with a member of any celestial, fiend, of monitor, or elemental family to produce a possibility of planar offspring.

Mind you, in 1e there were limited ways to express this beyond reflavouring your tiefling/aasimar's appearance to match your non-immirtal ancestry, but as mentioned 2e stepped up to the plate in that regard.

taints

I meant traits but honestly aurocorrect has my blessing on this one.
