Alchemist Human Favored Class Option

Rules Questions

Im abit confused on how this works. I assume you get to add a new formula every level, but the wording makes me think this happens only after you get 2nd level spells. Is this right?

Alchemist: Add one extract formulae from the alchemist's list to the character's formulae book. This formulae must be at least one level below the highest formulae level the alchemist can create.

See it reads must be 1 level lower than highest level know, so that tells me until u get 2nd level spells its better to take the hp/skill.
Is this right or am i interpreting it wrong?

Honestly, the human alchemist favored class ability is pretty much pointless. You can already learn all the extracts simply by finding scrolls and stealing spellbooks. I suppose it might save you some time or money, but it is definitely not worth using your favored class bonus.

I think the person who created that favored class bonus got confused and thought Alchemists were spontaneous casters with a limited spell list like Sorcerers.

Matrixryu, the same (pointless) bonus exists for wizards too. As a alchemist or wizard I would never take the human favored class bonus. As a oracle or sorcerer I would. - Gauss

P.S. How about the awesome bonus for human clerics? That covers what? 50% of all SR at least? I'm GMing CoT (an outsider heavy campaign) and the cleric has a nearly guaranteed chance to break outsider SR.

You're correct, werepox. Though unless your DM loves denying you sources of spells (in which case you should probably talk to him or play a spontaneous caster) you're much better off with HP or skills.
