It's okay now, Freehold. The moment has passed.
Ugh! Pittsburgh has thunderstorms, right now, and all my fingers ache. Trying to hold off taking Aleeve for as long as I can.
here's what works for me, thanks to my wife- a sock filled with rice (uncooked) tossed in the microwave for a minute and then held in afflicted areas.
The pain will subside.

Seriously the long standing pride organizers seem to have lost control of the event this year, and a political group has coopted the event. So no celebrations this year: no floats, no bands, no king/queen, simply a march.
Not even a festival at the end of the march.
Given this collapse I would not be sure that the former pride organization will ever reform. This might be the end of LA Pride.

So I got some good news: I received an appointment to the CTA LGBTQ annual conference steering committee (this is an annual appointment).
Met with the committee for the first time at the CTA Rep Council in LA this past weekend.
One of orders of agenda was/is selecting an appropriate LGBTQ movie for the conference. I was able to steer them away from inappropriate Trans representing movies that had made the cut prior to my joining the committee.
It will be a lot of work, but glad to help further the community and the movement and help educators learn about our community in an appropriate fashion. Too many issues and things going on effecting LGBTQ educators and students throughout California.

I also still get mostly considered straight since I'm attracted to femininity... rather than gender identity. Especially when other lgbt people telly me my sexuality (polysexual) doesn't exist... or isn't "gay enough"
So I get thought of as an ally.. depending. Rather than a member of the community.
Of course, I'm also an outright libertarian.. and that causes a whole different set of problems in the lgbtq community...
Surprisingly my far right past itself.. doesnt cause many issues. That tends to just fascinate everyone.
What'(s supposed to be inclusive? I've been called an oppressor in sheep's clothing and worse because I wanted to support LGBTetc friends without actually being one of them (yes, I m a hetero cis gendered guy), and apparently I'm not allowed to stand with the different folk because doing so would be an intrusion of the patriarchy or something...What pisses me off so much is that it's supposed to be inclusive. We should want to include ourselves and our allies. It doesn't feel that way at all. The more I look into the LGBT community, the more I realize that I don't belong.As a fortysomething cis white bi guy who's been happily and monogamously married to a woman for more than 20 years, I don't exactly feel welcomed by a small but vocal minority in the LGBTQ community, either. I've been accused of being a "tourist."
I will identify as bi when it comes up, but most people pretty much assume I'm straight because I blend into the patriarchy.

I have been having a hard time getting the Paizo pages to load so I haven't been able to post much or follow along.
@Cthulhusquatch, I'm a rare liberal libertarian. I find it hard to fit in just about anywhere. I wish that people would separate politics from this. It's one thing to be upset that the Republican Party Platform specifically wants to deny rights to law abiding citizens, but not all Republicans do. Most libertarians that I know don't really care what people do with their lives unless it impacts their own. I have found a lot more hate from Libertarians than Republicans, but it's only because online the Libertarians I encounter are more trolls than anything else. They are so anti-establishment that they ignore reality in just about every area of life. Those are the internet-Libertarians. They are just as useful as the internet-Republicans and internet-Democrats. They are all just a bunch of talk and they do a great job of dividing us. In person, the majority of people are nothing like their internet personas.

So an update to my medical situation, for those who are wondering.
The doctors want me to go in for another test on Wednesday. It's a longer test, but they found something and they need to see what it is. Hopefully they figure this out so that I can get back to work.
My rent is almost completely covered for this month and probably next month because of veteran's help programs. I won't know for sure about next month until the middle of this one so I'm going to keep my fundraiser going. Feel free to share it. I can repost it if anyone wants. I don't like begging, but I have almost no income right now.
Things are getting better, but they aren't there yet. Thanks to those who have helped and been supportive. It really means a lot.
I don't mean this to sound flip, but I'm glad they think they found something. I hope it is something that has some treatments, or at least symptom management.
I went for more than 18 months getting told that the tests didn't show anything out of the ordinary. Got sent to all kinds of specialists until one finally said the symptoms pointed to a specific diagnosis, but because there aren't actual markers, they couldn't "officially" diagnose that problem.
Now, decades later, there's still a stigma around the diagnosis, but at least there are a set of criteria that allow doctors to do research on causes. Still no clear cause, still no treatments, but at least we're no longer considered 'mental'.

For example, many so-called libertarians voted for and support Trump.. and also try to shut down free speech.
Mostly they would be at most economic libertarians. Most arent really even that though. For example.. many alt right consider themselves libertarian.
Social libertarians tend to be far different.
You are absolutely correct. Most people are not like their internet persona. The anonymous people at least.

I would say that's true about just anyone who uses the terms liberal, conservative, or any of the other labels. I know a lot of Republicans who are just fine with same-sex marriage even though the party platform is against it. They don't believe that it's in the platform even when I show them. They just vote Republican because that's what they've always done. There are similar things with liberals and libertarians.
I think that most people are far more similar when we sit down and just discuss things without using labels.

That doesnt' sound flip at all. I wish they had found something earlier so that I could be on my way to treatment. I'm glad that they found something also, I need answers. I don't like not knowing what's wrong.

Simply, don't. Show up already drunk if you have to and think (when sober) you can get away with it... but actually bringing booze to work is likely grounds for termination.

Been working for far too long to know if someone's joking about something like that, even if they have a jovial conniving tone when they're talking in person about it -- seen too many folks either do that, or take something off the shelf (work in retail) and drink it, or show up completely plastered and admit that was the cause of their issue (which is a termination offense at my workplace, as we sell adult beverages).
So likewise sorry if my response was a bit heavy-handed. Don't want to see someone burn a bridge like that.

It's just that the people on the other thread were playing around with a message board feature that involves random images from a 1980's cartoon that I didn't watch when it was on TV. *WOW. This was the longest sentence I remember writing in recent memory.* What was I watching at that time? Anime, of course. Primarily Robotech.
Ahhhh Robotech.
The heady days of youth, of either pushing the envelope going TO school or sprinting home to catch the afternoon installment (this was in the EARLY days of VCR, when the recorder would only be able to do one timer per day, and that timer was used to record the parental soap operas...)
I do remember that. Except I really wasn't able to catch it reliably. I remember being horribly confused when I missed the climax to Macross and the opening episodes of Southern Cross: Who are these people? Where are all the characters I know? And the ship and the bad guys? WTF?
No VCR for us in those days.
The one that really threw me was Mospeada/Invid Invasion.
Okay, it was hinted at in the first two arcs that yeah, they were a thing. But suddenly 'bug aliens' that wanted to evolve and... become Human?
Okay, that just completely lost me.
That, and the fact that they apparently went from 'nigh-infinite fuel/reactors/Protoculture' of the first two series to... "Okay, we have to stop at the local depot to pick up some gas, because we're almost out."
That being said, it was a reasonable working of three separate series into a thing to get it on the air.

The series was written with an apparent nigh-misogynist angle with a cis-gender background... would the books have been different if written today?

Anne had some definitely creepy ideas about sex, particularly about homosexuals. She definitely glossed over a bunch of things - particularly with green dragons, but also with the horribly rapey implications of dragon mating.
It would very likely change if written now, depending on the author of course.It's been a bit of a thing in fandom circles for a long time, I believe. I know Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear had some of those thoughts in mind when they wrote A Companion to Wolves, which has the same kind of bonds, but with wolf pack social structures in a more primitive pre-medieval style culture. Lots of hairy greasy man sex. :)
pern is...dated, to say the least. One of muy oldest friends and players in one of my games is a fan, I think one of the players in my other game is also a fan. I'm sure much of it would not work out well today with respect to sexuality. But it is not a product of today's world.

I got to meet Neil Degrasse f$%*ing Tyson today at work! My boss got us into an award ceremony where he was getting an award and it was amazing (i might've cried oops)
